Selecting the right variant
Its density suits field-network aggregation in oil and gas plants, power generation and manufacturing lines. The LV code denotes the low-voltage DC input, and an HV model with a wide AC/DC input is listed in the same series.
On the practical side, mounting is listed as din-rail mounting; wall mounting (with optional kit); the housing is metal; the stated MTBF is 774,632 hrs; the warranty period is 5 years. Treat the MTBF as a manufacturer prediction under its stated method, not a guarantee for your site.
What to confirm before ordering: the LV or HV power-input version, and the SFP modules you will fit in the combo ports. Our team in Muscat works from the exact code on your enquiry, as an independent supplier.
Related models in the EDS-528E-4GTXSFP-LV family
Moxa groups the EDS-528E-4GTXSFP-LV with 3 related order codes under one family: EDS-528E-4GTXSFP-HV, EDS-528E-4GTXSFP-HV-T, EDS-528E-4GTXSFP-LV, EDS-528E-4GTXSFP-LV-T. Suffixes such as -T generally mark wide-temperature versions and fiber suffixes (M, S, MM, SS with SC or ST) mark the connector and fiber type, but the order code printed on the datasheet governs.
Planning the network before installation
Before the switch is mounted, prepare a port plan that lists which devices connect to each of the 24 fast Ethernet ports and which combo ports will form the uplinks or ring connections. Decide on the VLAN structure, IP addressing and the redundancy protocol to be used, and make sure that every switch in a ring is configured for the same protocol. Agreeing these points with the control system integrator early avoids rework when PLCs, drives and HMIs are connected.
Mounting, power and cabling
Install the switch on the DIN rail inside a cabinet that protects the IP30 housing from dust and water. Leave space around the unit for heat to escape and for patch cables to bend gently. Feed the two power inputs from separate sources where possible so that the redundant inputs provide real protection, and wire the relay alarm contact to the control system so a power or link failure is reported. Label every cable at both ends, and keep copper Ethernet runs away from motor and power cables.
Commissioning and configuration hygiene
Change default credentials at first login, disable services that the plant does not use, and enable the security functions that match site policy, such as SSH, HTTPS and SNMPv3. Synchronise the clock using NTP so that event logs line up with other systems. After testing ring recovery by disconnecting a link in a controlled manner, save the final configuration and keep a copy off the switch for quick restoration.
Operating conditions in Oman and the GCC
Field cabinets in Omani oil and gas sites and substations can heat up well beyond the outdoor air temperature in summer, so check the expected cabinet temperature against the operating range and provide sun shading or cooling where needed. Fine dust can enter poorly sealed cabinets and settle on the switch and connectors, and coastal humidity may lead to condensation when cabinets cool at night. Periodically check cabinet filters, look for dust on ports and fibre connections, review the switch event log, and keep firmware updates under a controlled change procedure.

About brand
Since 1987 Moxa, based in New Taipei City, Taiwan, has built networking hardware for places where an office switch would fail: substations, wellhead panels, roadside cabinets. Seven Star LLC lists Moxa industrial Ethernet switches and fiber converters and supplies Moxa networking devices to system integrators and plant teams in Oman as an independent supplier. Each request is checked against the full Moxa model name before we quote.
Moxa switches and converters listed here
The EDS-G508E is a managed switch with eight Gigabit ports from the EDS managed line. The EDS-316-MM-SC-T is a 16-port unmanaged switch with 14 copper ports, two multi-mode SC fiber ports and the wide-temperature option (-40 to 75 C). The TCF-142-S-SC-T belongs to the TCF-142 series, which converts RS-232/422/485 serial signals to single-mode fiber. Moxa also makes serial device servers, protocol gateways, wireless devices and industrial computers, used on SCADA and telemetry networks across the GCC.
Ordering Moxa devices: what we need
The suffixes carry the specification. Send the complete model name, including fiber mode and connector (MM-SC, SS-SC, ST), the -T wide-temperature suffix and any coating or approval suffix. Add the power supply voltage, the SFP modules needed and the quantity.

Moxa lists it as: Managed Gigabit Ethernet switch with 24 10/100BaseT(X) ports, 4 10/100/1000BaseT(X) or 100/1000BaseSFP ports, dual 12/24/48/-48 VDC power inputs, -10 to 60°C operating temperature. A 28-port Layer 2 managed switch with 24 fast Ethernet ports and four Gigabit combo ports, offering redundancy, security and diagnostics for larger control networks.
The Moxa specification gives an input voltage of 12/24/48/-48 VDC; Redundant dual inputs. Check the terminal arrangement and, where relevant, the redundant-input wiring against your panel supply before ordering.
The listed operating temperature is -10 to 60°C (14 to 140°F). Wide-temperature versions carry a -T suffix in Moxa's order codes where the series offers them, and they are separate order codes.
It is a managed switch, so VLANs, redundancy and security are set through its web, console or SNMP interfaces.
