Biffi F02 Electric Quarter-Turn Actuator
Description
Overview
The Biffi F02 is a self-contained electric quarter-turn actuator available across six body sizes, extending Biffi’s electric actuation platform to a broader torque range than the F01 while retaining the same self-contained motor, gearbox, and control-electronics architecture in a single weatherproof enclosure. Designed for both on/off and modulating valve automation, the F02 suits process plants and utility networks that need a wider selection of electric actuator sizes to cover everything from small isolation valves to larger process valves, without introducing a second actuator platform or a separate spare-parts inventory.
Backed by manufacturer datasheet documentation, Seven Star LLC supplies the F02 electric actuator, together with the complete Biffi electric actuation range, to EPC contractors and facility engineers throughout the Sultanate of Oman and the wider GCC.Seven Star LLC supplies this item on request with the manufacturer documentation, and availability and lead time are confirmed at quotation.
Operating Principle of the Biffi F02
The Biffi F02 uses the same fundamental electric drive principle as the F01 – an electric motor coupled through a reduction gearbox drives the output drive sleeve through its 90° quarter-turn stroke – but is engineered across six distinct body sizes to scale the available output torque to a much wider range of valve duties. Integrated torque and position monitoring, or continuous position and torque transducers on modulating variants, govern precise motor stop points at end-of-travel or upon detecting an obstruction, protecting the actuator and the connected valve from mechanical overload regardless of which of the six sizes is selected.
Because the F02 shares its control philosophy and interface conventions with the rest of the Biffi electric range while extending the available torque coverage, plant engineers can standardize wiring practices, control-signal conventions, and spare-parts stock across a wide population of electric valves without needing to qualify multiple actuator brands for different valve sizes. The practical benefit is simplified engineering, procurement, and maintenance across a facility’s full electric valve automation scope.
Engineering Design of the Biffi F02
The Biffi F02 housing is available in six body sizes, each rated to IP66/IP68 enclosure protection as standard, with the internal motor, gearbox, and control electronics scaled proportionally to each size’s torque output. The output drive uses the standard ISO 5211 mounting interface consistent across the Biffi range, and the local control station provides local/remote/stop selector switches, mechanical position indication, and status lamps for straightforward field verification without requiring access to the remote control system.
A declutched manual hand-wheel override, sized appropriately to each body size, allows the valve to be stroked manually during commissioning, maintenance, or a total loss of electrical power. Remote signalling options include discrete digital contacts and, on modulating variants, 4–20mA analogue position and feedback signals, and enclosure heater elements prevent internal condensation in humid coastal environments such as Oman’s Sohar and Salalah industrial zones.
Key Features
The Biffi F02 extends Biffi’s self-contained electric actuation platform across a wide range of torque requirements.
- Six distinct body sizes allow the F02 to cover a much wider torque range than the standard F01 within a single actuator platform.
- An integrated motor, gearbox, and control electronics package eliminates the need for instrument air or hydraulic infrastructure at the valve site.
- Integrated torque and position monitoring stops the motor precisely at end-of-travel or on detecting a mechanical obstruction.
- IP66/IP68 enclosure protection across all six sizes suits both onshore desert and coastal or offshore GCC installations.
- A declutched manual hand-wheel override, sized to each body, allows valve operation during a total loss of electrical power.
- Standard ISO 5211 mounting keeps spare-parts logistics consistent across a mixed Biffi electric actuator fleet.
- Shared control philosophy with the rest of the Biffi electric range simplifies wiring and commissioning practices facility-wide.
- Optional 4–20mA modulating control supports continuous valve-position regulation on larger process valves.
Industrial Applications
The Biffi F02 is specified across process plants, utility networks, and industrial facilities that need a single electric actuator platform covering a broad range of valve sizes, from smaller isolation valves up to larger process and utility valves within the same six-size family. Across Oman’s process, utility, and district-cooling infrastructure serving Muscat and the surrounding capital area, the F02’s size range allows facility engineers to standardize on one electric actuator brand and control convention across a diverse population of valve sizes, simplifying training, spare-parts holding, and long-term maintenance planning.
Working closely with plant engineers in the region, Seven Star LLC distributes the F02 to EPC contractors and facility engineers delivering utility, process, and light-industrial infrastructure across the Sohar and Salalah economic free zones, and to plant operators across the GCC standardizing their electric valve automation fleet on a genuine, traceable actuator platform. Lead time and availability are confirmed at quotation, so multi-size electric valve automation projects can be scheduled accordingly.

About brand
Biffi is an Italian maker of valve actuators for the oil and gas and petrochemical industries. Its first factory opened in 1955 in Fiorenzuola d'Arda, near Piacenza, making electric actuators for the Italian petrochemical industry; the company moved to its present site in 1969. Biffi is now part of Emerson, and its pneumatic, hydraulic and electric actuators drive pipeline, wellhead and shutdown valves.
Seven Star LLC lists Biffi actuators across these operating media and supplies them to valve automation shops and operators in Oman, sized from the valve torque data.

Biffi actuator series on this page
The series names follow a logic that helps when reading a tag. ALGA is the pneumatic quarter-turn actuator and ALGAS its spring-return version. OLGA-H is the hydraulic quarter-turn actuator and OLGAS-H the fail-safe hydraulic version with spring. In the compact rack-and-pinion group, RPD and RPS are the double-acting and spring-return pneumatic pair, and RPHD and RPHS are their hydraulic counterparts. The F01 and F02 are electric quarter-turn actuators, the ICON2000 and ICON3000 are electric multi-turn actuators and the EFS 3000 is a fail-safe electric quarter-turn actuator; the manufacturer now names the Bettis SCE300 as the replacement for the F02. In each pair the S marks the model that returns to a safe position by spring.
Where Biffi actuators are used
Typical duties are emergency shutdown and blowdown valves, pipeline block valves, wellhead and manifold valves, tank farm isolation and large ball valves at compressor and metering stations. Spring-return models are chosen for fail-safe service. Hydraulic and electro-hydraulic units appear where instrument air is not on hand, as on remote GCC pipeline stations.

Ordering Biffi actuators: what we need
Actuators are sized, so the valve data comes first: valve type and size, the torque curve or at least break, run and end torques, the safety factor in your specification and the stem and mounting flange dimensions. Then the supply: minimum and maximum air or oil pressure, or voltage for electric units. State the fail action, stroking time, ambient temperature and the control accessories required. For an existing actuator send the model and serial number from the nameplate.
