Overview

The ABB ControlMaster CM30 is a 1/4 DIN universal process controller built for standalone single-loop or dual-loop control on temperature, flow, level, and pressure applications. Operating Principle

The CM30 reads its configured process input, compares it against a setpoint, and drives an output — analog, relay, or pulse/proportioning — through PID control logic to bring the process variable to setpoint. Advanced control strategies available on the CM30 platform include cascade, feed-forward, ratio, predictive, and adaptive control, along with autotune functionality that lets the controller determine appropriate PID tuning parameters automatically rather than requiring manual tuning by trial and error.

Engineering Design of the ABB ControlMaster CM30

The CM30 accepts thermocouple (0.1% of reading or ±0.5°C for Type K), RTD/Pt100 (0.1% of reading or ±0.5°C), and linear mV/mA/V inputs (0.1–0.5% of reading depending on range) across two universal process inputs, expandable to four. Its 3.5-inch full-color TFT display is user-customizable for operator clarity. Output options include a 0–20mA analog output at 0.2% accuracy (750Ω max load) and up to four relay outputs rated 5A/240V, configurable as pulse or proportioning signals. Power supply is 100–240VAC ±10% or optional 10–36VDC at up to 10W, with an IP66/NEMA 4X-rated front face.
