Brand:

Lovejoy LS110 Jaw In-Shear Coupling, 42 mm Bore

Description

Lovejoy LS110 is the 1.625 in (42 mm) maximum-bore size of the Jaw In-Shear coupling, a jaw coupling whose urethane insert works in shear and locks to the hubs with six pins. Because the insert is radially removable, it can be replaced without moving the driver or driven machine, which cuts downtime on pumps, fans and conveyors.

A quick-change insert on industry-standard jaw hubs

The Jaw In-Shear design is built on Lovejoy’s L Type and C Type hubs, so an existing jaw coupling can be converted with an insert and ring conversion kit rather than a new coupling. No tools are needed to release the insert, and neither hub has to move. The catalogue describes it as the evolution of the world’s most popular jaw coupling and lists sixteen sizes, from LS090 to CS500, with bores up to 9 in.

Lovejoy’s own torque and service-factor method for this series is separate from the standard jaw coupling: the ratings and service factors are unique to Jaw In-Shear, so size from the table below and not from the L Type chart.

Selecting the LS110

The total service factor is K1 x K2 x K3. K1 comes from the driven machine: for a standard-torque electric motor it runs from 1.0 for uniform loads such as centrifugal pumps, fans and belt or screw conveyors, through 1.4 for mixers and mills, to 2.3 for piston compressors, crushers and heavy presses. K2 is 1.0 up to 8 hours a day and rises to 1.15 for 24-hour duty. K3 depends on starts per hour, from 1.0 up to 10 starts to 2.2 at more than 125 starts for the lighter machine groups. Multiply the nominal torque of the application by the total and pick the size whose nominal rating is higher.

Order codes in the catalogue include the LS110 JIS insert and ring conversion kit 68514478390, the insert alone 68514471708 and the retaining ring 68514471681; bore-specific hubs come from the jaw hub tables.

Spacer style for pump and grid replacement

The spacer version keeps the same insert but adds adapter hubs sized to grid couplings so a lubricated grid spacer coupling can be replaced by a non-lubricated one. For LS110 the catalogue lists standard spacer lengths with a 5 in, 7 in or 9 in shaft separation (BSE) and overall lengths of 8.25 in, 10.25 in and 12.24 in, using a size 1030 grid hub with a 2.34 in hub diameter and 1.625 in maximum bore.

Installation and operation notes

Follow the catalogue warnings: stay within catalogue ratings, avoid shock loads, check alignment and bolt torque at installation, and inspect the insert shortly after first operation. Stainless-steel jaw hubs for sizes SS075 to SS150 and AL-type aluminium hubs can be paired with this insert for washdown or corrosive duty, as listed in the brochure.

Where it is used

Pumps for viscous fluids, generators, shredders, printing presses and mills appear in the catalogue examples, as do concrete mixers and compression pumps in the higher service-factor groups. Where a failed insert would stop a line, the radially removable design shortens repair, with the hubs left aligned on their shafts.

Operating notes for Oman and the GCC

On pumps and fans that run in hot plant rooms or outdoors, check the insert temperature limit against the real ambient and the heat radiated from the motor and pump casing. Keep a spare insert in stock, because the main benefit of the LS110 is that it can be changed in minutes without moving the machines.

Frequently asked questions

What makes Jaw In-Shear different from a standard jaw coupling?

The insert loads in shear and is held by a six-pin locking system, so it can be removed radially without moving either hub or the connected machines.

What hubs does the LS110 use?

Lovejoy L Type hubs for the standard style; the catalogue says the design uses existing Lovejoy jaw hubs, including a conversion kit option.

What are the temperature limits of the insert?

The 50D shore urethane insert is rated from -60 F (-50 C) up to 200 F (93 C) maximum.

How much misalignment can the LS110 take?

Parallel 0.03 in and axial 0.031 in at this size; the series overview lists 2 degrees angular capability and 5 degrees of torsional wind-up at full load.

Can a grid spacer coupling be replaced with it?

Yes. The Jaw In-Shear spacer style is designed as a drop-in replacement for a grid spacer coupling, using adapter hubs on LS090 to CS350 sizes.
