Brand:

Lantronix G526GP12S G520 Industrial LTE Cat 4 IoT Gateway

Description

A DC-powered LTE gateway for remote sites, with serial, I/O and fieldbus conversion

The Lantronix G526GP12S is the Industry Pack of the G520 series, an LTE Cat 4 cellular router for EMEA and Asia Pacific bands with 3G and 2G fall-back. The manufacturer lists it with a 10.8 to 60 VDC input, last-gasp backup, digital and analogue I/O, RS-232 and RS-485 serial ports, USB, Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.1, two Ethernet ports, GNSS, dual SIM and a microSD slot, running the ePack Industrial software suite. In plain terms it is a router that can bring a pump station, meter room or telemetry panel onto a cellular network and talk to local equipment over serial and Ethernet.

The G520 series is split into Industrial (G526, LTE Cat 4), and Security (G527 with LTE Cat 13 uplink and Cat 7 downlink, and G528 with 5G sub-6 GHz) packs. The G526 has no PoE output; the Security models add a secure element and PSE-PoE+. All variants are in a brushed aluminium case of 131.5 x 81.27 x 25 mm weighing about 300 g and arrive pre-enabled for the Percepxion device management platform.

Choosing the right G520 code for the Gulf

The G526 family is sold by region because the LTE band set differs. G526GP12S is the EMEA and Asia Pacific pack with bands 28, 20, 8, 3, 1 and 7; G526GP1AS covers Canada and the USA, G526GP1ASG is the AMER TAA version, G526GP17S covers Japan and South Korea and G526GP1CS covers China, Thailand, Indonesia and India. Always match the band list to the operator you will use and confirm local type approval, because the bulletin and guide do not state Gulf-country approvals.

The user guide also lists G526GP12SB01, an SLC kit that bundles the gateway with an SLC console manager. Accessory bundle ACC-G526-1 contains the A33M0 and A21H0 antennas, the ACC-520-0165-00 power supply and the BR351 DIN-rail clip. The package contents are the gateway, power cord ACC-500-0420-00 (3-pin Nano-Fit with a 2.5 A fuse and two 1 m stripped wires), a quick start guide and a Percepxion flyer; other accessories are user supplied. See the industrial communications category for related gateways.

Commissioning and network behaviour

Out of the box the WAN Ethernet port acts as a DHCP client with cellular as backup, the LAN port runs a DHCP server starting at 192.168.1.100 with a pool of 100 clients, and Wi-Fi is enabled as an access point. The web interface is reached at the default LAN address 192.168.1.1. The cellular interface has no PAP/CHAP authentication by default, so enter the SIM profile or APN for the operator before the field visit. Failover or load balancing can be configured between Ethernet, cellular and Wi-Fi, and a configurable network connectivity watchdog plus an internal application watchdog are listed.

Power is a wide-range DC input, so the unit can sit on a 12 V or 24 V battery bus or a vehicle supply; the ignition input and last-gasp function suit mobile and unattended installs. Use the RS-485 header and the Modbus master or IEC 101/104 conversion functions to poll local meters or RTUs and forward data to a SCADA host over the cellular link.

Applications and cautions

Typical uses are remote tank and pump telemetry, utility and metering back-haul, CCTV or kiosk uplinks and temporary site connectivity. For hot sites the -30 to +70 C operating range is the relevant figure; mount the unit in a ventilated enclosure out of direct sun and keep antennas outside metal cabinets. Verify SIM, band and security requirements with the network operator before ordering.
