Leybold 960 345 SOGEVAC SV 40 ATEX Cat 2 Vacuum Pump IIB+H2
Description
An explosion-protected SOGEVAC for Zone 1 and Zone 2 vacuum lines
The Leybold 960 345 is the SOGEVAC SV 40 ATEX LA IIB+H2 with permanent gas ballast, for the 50 Hz supply. It is an ATEX Category 2 version of the SV 40 B oil-sealed rotary vane pump, marked II 1/2 G Ex h IIB+H2 T4 Ga/Gb for an ambient range of +5 to +40 degrees C and documented under EC Type Examination Certificate PTB 04 ATEX 4013 Issue 1 in accordance with Directive 2014/34/EU, as printed in the catalogue.
The marking 1/2 means the pump is rated Category 1 inside and Category 2 outside, so it may be connected to a process where the gas inside the pump can be flammable. The designation IIB+H2 indicates the gas group: hydrogen and gases of group IIB are covered, while the IIA versions of the same pump (960 342 and 960 344) are limited to group IIA. Hazard analysis remains the operator duty; the catalogue states that the customer must perform it as soon as gases capable of exploding are pumped or are present nearby.

Built-in protection and what is delivered
- Standard equipment includes FPM (FKM) seals, an oil filter bypass and LEYBONOL LVO 210 oil, with special ATEX exhaust filters, couplings, motors and floats.
- All pumps carry Pt100 temperature, oil level and oil casing pressure sensors, and the motors have PTC thermistors for monitoring.
- The pump is supplied with special Operating Instructions (GA), a Spare Parts List (ET) and a CE declaration, which must be observed.
- Only special accessories (filters, valves, taps) and original Leybold spare parts may be used, and restrictions apply to service and repairs: contact Leybold before attempting them.
Selecting and installing in a hazardous area
Choose 960 345 when the process gas contains hydrogen or group IIB vapours and the plant runs on 50 Hz, which covers the GCC electricity grids. Gas groups, temperature class and zone must be matched to the hazardous area classification of the installation by the responsible engineer; the catalogue states pumping speed curves are the same as for non-ATEX SOGEVAC pumps, so sizing can follow the standard SV 40 B curves. Operation is possible at all pressures between 1000 mbar and ultimate pressure, and the pump can be air or water cooled.
Typical uses in oil, gas and chemical plants
ATEX pumps of this type are used where a vacuum source sits in or beside a classified area: solvent recovery, vapour extraction from tanks, vacuum filling of chemical containers, laboratory and pilot plants in petrochemical sites. Keep the gas inlet temperature below 40 degrees C and avoid acetylene or other gases outside the declared gas group.
Send the gas group, zone and supply frequency with your enquiry and we will check them against the table above. More equipment sits in the pumps category.
Selection and installation notes
A vacuum pump is selected from the pumping speed, the ultimate pressure and the gases or vapours it will handle. Use the oil grade the maker names, check the oil level before starting, connect the exhaust to a safe place and fit an oil mist filter where needed, use a trap or filter ahead of the pump for dust and vapour and warm the pump before pumping condensable vapour. Service the oil and filters on the schedule in the manual.
For a hazardous area, use only the certified version, keep the ATEX marking and the supply and gas conditions within the certificate and follow the local hazardous area rules.
Information needed for a quotation
Send the full model code, the quantity, the delivery location in Oman or the GCC, the intended use and any accessories needed, so that the complete package can be quoted together.
Documents and supply information
The manufacturer data sheet is attached to this page and should be read together with the project specification and the site risk assessment before a purchase is confirmed. Ratings, standards and dimensions are quoted as printed on that sheet. Lead time, stock position and certificates available with the shipment are confirmed in the quotation, and we supply to Oman and the wider GCC region for industrial, utility and building services projects.
