Ubiquiti U6-LR UniFi 6 Long-Range Wi-Fi 6 Access Point

Description

The Ubiquiti U6-LR (UniFi 6 Long-Range) is a Wi-Fi 6 access point with 4×4 radios on both bands, 26 dBm maximum transmit power on 2.4 and 5 GHz, 600 Mbps on 2.4 GHz and 2400 Mbps on 5 GHz. It is powered by PoE+ at up to 18.5 W and rated IP54, and UniFi gives it a 185 square metre coverage figure, the largest of the U6 family.

The name says what it is for: extended signal range for larger rooms, warehouses and open areas.

A range-focused Wi-Fi 6 access point

Where the U6-Pro focuses on 5 GHz capacity, the U6-LR raises transmit power and uses a 4×4 radio on 2.4 GHz as well as 5 GHz, so far-away client devices can hear the AP and reply with a usable signal. This is helpful in warehouses, workshops, car parks and large retail floors. The datasheet gives 300+ concurrent clients, 8 BSSIDs per radio and the same zero-wait DFS, WPA3 and per-user rate limiting as the other UniFi 6 models, and UniFi notes support for passive 48 V power in addition to PoE+.

Features from the datasheet and tech specs

Long range versus high capacity

A longer range does not mean more capacity. The 5 GHz throughput is 2400 Mbps, half the U6-Pro’s 4.8 Gbps, and the U6-LR is not the better pick for dense rooms; use the U6-Pro or U6-Enterprise there. Use the U6-LR where client density is low and distance is the problem. Also note that higher transmit power cannot fix weak client transmitters, so a link is only as good as the weaker side.

The supported data rates in the datasheet, 802.11n up to 600 Mbps, 802.11ac up to 1.7 Gbps and 802.11ax up to 2.4 Gbps, are PHY-rate ceilings. Real client throughput is lower and falls with distance, wall materials and neighbouring networks, so treat them as a comparison between models and not as a site guarantee.

Installation notes

Mount the bracket, connect PoE+ at 18.5 W, and adopt in UniFi Network. Set transmit power manually if neighbouring APs overlap. In high ceilings (warehouses), aim for open line of sight and avoid mounting directly against steel purlins. The IP54 rating covers dust and splash but not hose-down.

Applications in Oman and the GCC

Typical places are large retail floors, warehouses, school halls, villas with outdoor seating, labour camps and farms where one AP must cover a larger footprint. Sun exposure on hot surfaces still matters, even with the 60 C rating.

PoE budget (derived): at 18.5 W maximum, ten units need 185 W, so a USW-Lite-16-PoE with 45 W would power only two of them.

Selection and installation notes

Plan a wireless network from a site survey, not from the data sheet range alone. Walls, floors and metal structures reduce coverage, so place access points at the centre of the area they serve, away from obstacles, and set the channels and power so that neighbouring units do not interfere. Confirm the PoE standard and the switch budget, the number of clients and the management platform, and change the default passwords at commissioning.

Information needed for a quotation

Send the full model code, the quantity, the delivery location in Oman or the GCC, the intended use and any accessories needed, so that the complete package can be quoted together.

Documents and supply information

The manufacturer data sheet is attached to this page and should be read together with the project specification and the site risk assessment before a purchase is confirmed. Ratings, standards and dimensions are quoted as printed on that sheet. Lead time, stock position and certificates available with the shipment are confirmed in the quotation, and we supply to Oman and the wider GCC region for industrial, utility and building services projects.
