VEGA VEGAPOINT 23 Capacitive Level Switch with Tube Extension

Description

A capacitive switch with a selectable tube length up to 1 m

The VEGAPOINT 23 adds a tube extension of 64 to 1000 mm to the capacitive VEGAPOINT sensor so that the switching point can be chosen by length instead of by nozzle position. VEGA specifies it for level detection of water-based liquids, with overfill and dry-run protection as typical applications. Setup is via the integrated Bluetooth module with a smartphone, tablet or PC, which VEGA lists as a benefit along with wear- and maintenance-free operation. The sheet describes the transistor (PNP/NPN) version with IO-Link, and a full-metal variant raises the pressure limit from 25 to 64 bar.

Tube lengths and temperature limits

The product information ties the tube length to the temperature range: with a tube extension below 250 mm the process temperature is -40…+115 °C with +135 °C for 1 h, but for tubes of 250 mm or more the range narrows to -40…+80 °C (+135 °C for 1 h). Plan CIP or steam cycles accordingly, and if the process runs hotter, choose a shorter tube or move to the VEGASWING family. The tube extension also helps where buildup near the vessel wall would otherwise reach the electrode.

Using the Bluetooth app

VEGA lists simple setup via Bluetooth adjustment as a benefit of the 23, using a smartphone, tablet or Windows PC. VEGA lists the sensor’s ability to ignore buildup to a certain degree, so a thin film on the tube is not read as medium. Specify the tube length, fitting, whether you need the full-metal 64 bar version, and the output (PNP/NPN or IO-Link) in your RFQ, and confirm hygienic and Ex approvals with the manufacturer.

VEGA’s PI lists the VEGAPOINT 23 with hygienic adapters, clamp 1″, 1½” and 2″, collar socket and threads from ½”, which lets a single sensor body serve both process and food-grade tanks. The full-metal version with stainless steel throughout carries the higher 64 bar rating. The tube length is chosen so that the electrode tip sits at the desired switching height and the sensor remains short enough to avoid contact with agitators.

About brand

VEGA is a German maker of level and pressure instruments. Bruno Grieshaber founded the company in 1959 in Triberg in the Black Forest, and it has been based in Schiltach since 1975, still family owned as VEGA Grieshaber KG. VEGA is best known for radar level sensors: it introduced the first two-wire radar level sensor in 1997 and the first 80 GHz radar sensor for bulk solids, the VEGAPULS 69, in 2015.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier listing VEGA radar and guided wave radar transmitters, point level switches, pressure transmitters and signal conditioning instruments for buyers in Oman and the GCC. Sensors are matched from the product code on the type label.

Where VEGA instruments are used

VEGA radar sensors measure level in crude oil and product tanks, separators, chemical reactors, cement and aggregate silos, grain stores and water reservoirs. Compact cable radars are widely used in wastewater pumping stations and flood monitoring. Because 80 GHz radar focuses a narrow beam, it can measure past internal structures in a tank, and it is not affected by the temperature, pressure or vapour above the product, which suits hot Gulf storage tanks.

Ordering VEGA instruments: what we need

The product code on the type label (for example PS64.XXXXXXX) fixes the measuring range, antenna or probe, process connection, electronics and approvals. Send it with the serial number. For a new measurement add the medium and its dielectric constant if known, tank or silo height and internals, process pressure and temperature, process connection, output (4-20 mA HART, PROFIBUS PA, Modbus or IO-Link), and any hazardous-area or overfill protection approval required.
