Where it fits and what to check

It works well as a field switch that collects eight devices and hands traffic to a gigabit backbone, either by copper or by SFP fiber.

On the practical side, mounting is listed as din-rail mounting; wall mounting (with optional kit); the housing is metal; the stated MTBF is 2,174,016 hrs; the warranty period is 5 years. Treat the MTBF as a manufacturer prediction under its stated method, not a guarantee for your site.

Before ordering, confirm the copper or SFP uplink choice, the supply voltage and the operating-temperature version. Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat and quotes against the exact code you give us.

Installation notes for the EDS-2010-ML-2GTXSFP

Plan the DIN-rail position so that the copper cables and any fiber patch leads can enter the switch without tight bends or strain on the connectors. Leave clear space above and below the housing so that warm air can rise away from the metal enclosure instead of collecting around it, and keep the switch away from drive outputs, contactors and other sources of electrical noise inside the same panel. Because the enclosure is rated IP30, it belongs inside a cabinet or control enclosure rather than on an open wall in a process area.

Wire the two DC supplies to the removable terminal block from separate sources where the design allows, so that losing one supply does not take the switch down. Use the relay alarm contact to report a supply or port problem back to the PLC or SCADA, which gives operators an early warning on an unmanaged device that otherwise has no configuration interface. Label each port with the device it serves before the panel is closed up; this saves time later when someone traces a fault at night.

Commissioning and first power-up

Before connecting field devices, power the switch from each input in turn and confirm that the alarm relay reacts as the panel drawings expect. Then connect the uplink first and check that the link comes up at the speed the backbone is designed for. For a fiber uplink, confirm that the SFP module type and the fiber type at the far end match; a mismatch between single-mode and multi-mode, or between wavelengths, is a common reason for a link that never establishes. After the uplink is stable, add the field devices one at a time and confirm each one is reachable from the control system.

Since the switch is unmanaged, it does not segment traffic or block loops on its own. Check the cabling against the network drawing so that no accidental loop is created between this switch and another one in the same cabinet.

Operating in Oman and GCC conditions

Panels in Oman and across the GCC often sit in outdoor kiosks or plant rooms where summer heat builds up quickly. Compare the real temperature inside the enclosure, not the outdoor air reading, with the -10 to 60°C operating range on this page. Solar gain on a sunlit cabinet door, heat from power supplies and poor ventilation can push the internal temperature well above ambient, so measure it during the hottest part of the day before final acceptance.

Fine desert dust and coastal humidity are the other two concerns. Keep cabinet doors closed, maintain the cabinet filters and seals, and avoid locations where condensation can form when air conditioning cycles on and off, since the stated humidity range is non-condensing.

Routine maintenance checks

During planned shutdowns, inspect the terminal block for loose supply wires, check that both power inputs are still live, clean dust from the cabinet without blowing it into the ports, and reseat any fiber patch leads that show signs of strain. Keep a record of which devices connect to which port so that a replacement switch can be dropped in quickly with the same layout.

About brand

Since 1987 Moxa, based in New Taipei City, Taiwan, has built networking hardware for places where an office switch would fail: substations, wellhead panels, roadside cabinets. Seven Star LLC lists Moxa industrial Ethernet switches and fiber converters and supplies Moxa networking devices to system integrators and plant teams in Oman as an independent supplier. Each request is checked against the full Moxa model name before we quote.

Moxa switches and converters listed here

The EDS-G508E is a managed switch with eight Gigabit ports from the EDS managed line. The EDS-316-MM-SC-T is a 16-port unmanaged switch with 14 copper ports, two multi-mode SC fiber ports and the wide-temperature option (-40 to 75 C). The TCF-142-S-SC-T belongs to the TCF-142 series, which converts RS-232/422/485 serial signals to single-mode fiber. Moxa also makes serial device servers, protocol gateways, wireless devices and industrial computers, used on SCADA and telemetry networks across the GCC.

What power supply does the EDS-2010-ML-2GTXSFP need?
The Moxa specification gives an input voltage of 12/24/48 VDC; Redundant dual inputs. Check the terminal arrangement and, where relevant, the redundant-input wiring against your panel supply before ordering.
What operating temperature range applies to the EDS-2010-ML-2GTXSFP?
The listed operating temperature is -10 to 60°C (14 to 140°F). Wide-temperature versions carry a -T suffix in Moxa's order codes where the series offers them, and they are separate order codes.
Does the EDS-2010-ML-2GTXSFP need configuration?
It is an unmanaged switch: ports auto-negotiate speed and crossover, so it works as plug-and-play without software configuration, and any alarm or switch functions are set on the unit itself.
Where is the EDS-2010-ML-2GTXSFP datasheet and how do I ask for a quotation?
The official Moxa datasheet is attached to this page. Send Seven Star LLC the exact order code, quantity and delivery location for a quotation; we are an independent supplier in Muscat.
