Allen-Bradley 1769-IQ32 Compact I/O 32-Point 24V DC Input Module
Description
A 32-point DC input module for a Compact I/O bank
The Allen-Bradley 1769-IQ32 is a 32-point 24V DC input module in the 1769 Compact I/O range. It receives field signals in four groups of eight and accepts both sinking and sourcing wiring, so one module can serve contacts, proximity switches and PNP or NPN sensors with the common wired accordingly.
At 1.5 slots wide it provides about double the points of the 16-point 1769-IQ16 in a similar footprint, which helps when a Compact bank is limited by the number of modules the power supply can feed. It is a different product from the IQ32T, which is the terminated version.

Voltage, delay and thermal derating
Input voltage limits depend on temperature: the technical data gives 10 to 30V DC at 30 °C and 10 to 26.4V DC at 60 °C. The on-state threshold is 10V DC at 2 mA, the off-state limits are 5V DC and 1.5 mA, and the input delay is 8 ms in both directions. These values make the module suitable for ordinary contacts but not for fast counting inputs.
The nominal input impedance is 5.2 kΩ at 24V DC and 6.1 kΩ at 30V DC, and the inrush current peaks at 250 mA. Heat dissipation is 4.6 W, which should be added when estimating cabinet temperature.
Bank planning and power
The module draws 170 mA at 5.1V DC from the Compact I/O bus. It is rated for a power-supply distance of 8 modules, meaning it can be placed up to eight positions from the supply in a bank. The matching power supplies are the 1769-PA2, 1769-PB2, 1769-PA4 and 1769-PB4, and a 1769-ECR right end cap terminates the bank.
Field wiring uses an 18-pin NEMA terminal block (1769-RTBN18 as a replacement), with 22 to 14 AWG solid or 22 to 16 AWG stranded copper at 90 °C. Terminal screws are tightened to 0.68 N.m. The module mounts on a DIN rail or panel and is open-type equipment.
Documents and quotation
The Compact I/O technical data 1769-TD006 contains the IQ32 table, wiring diagram and certification page. For a quotation send the 1769-IQ32 reference, series, quantity, the controller or adapter and the field supply. Related hardware is shown in PLC & I/O Cards and 1769-IQ16 input module.
How the 1769-IQ32 Works
Each input of the 1769-IQ32 is an optically isolated circuit. When a field device closes, current flows through the input and the common; once the voltage and current rise above the on-state threshold, the optocoupler switches and the module reports the point as ON to the controller. The 8 ms input filter ignores short spikes and contact bounce, which makes the inputs stable on long cable runs.
Sinking or sourcing operation is set by how the group common is wired, not by a switch on the module. If the common is connected to 0V DC, the inputs sink current and work with sourcing (PNP) sensors and contacts fed from +24V. If the common is connected to +24V DC, the inputs source current and work with sinking (NPN) sensors. Because the module has four groups, different groups can be wired differently, which helps when a machine mixes sensors from several suppliers.
Selection & Ordering Guide for the 1769-IQ32
- 1769-IQ32 – 32 sink/source 24V DC inputs, 18-pin removable terminal block.
- 1769-IQ32K – conformal-coated version for harsh atmospheres.
- 1769-IQ32T – 32-point version with a high-density connector for pre-wired cables.
- 1769-IQ16 – 16-point module where fewer inputs are needed.
Check the total 5V current of the bank against the power supply rating and the distance rating before adding modules. Our team can help confirm the correct ordering code when you request a quote.
Installation & Maintenance of the 1769-IQ32
- Isolate power before installing or removing the module; Compact I/O is not designed for removal or insertion under power.
- Lock the bus lever to connect the module to its neighbours and finish the bank with a 1769-ECR right end cap.
- Keep 24V DC input cables apart from mains and drive output cables, and use a dedicated, well-regulated 24V DC field supply.
- Allow for the 60 °C voltage derating in hot cabinets, and keep ventilation clear above and below the bank.
- When fault finding, compare the input status indicator with the sensor and the controller tag to see whether a fault is in the field wiring or in the program.
Typical Applications in Oman & the GCC
With 32 inputs in 1.5 slots, the 1769-IQ32 is used to collect large numbers of discrete signals in CompactLogix systems: limit switches and proximity sensors on packaging and bottling lines, pushbuttons and selector switches on operator panels, motor starter auxiliary contacts and overload trips in motor control centres, and valve position feedback on water and wastewater plants. In cabinets that sit in hot plant rooms or outdoors, the derating values are important when sizing the field supply.

About brand
Catalog numbers beginning 1756, 1734, 1746 or 5069 are read at a glance by anyone who maintains Allen-Bradley control panels. The brand, the control hardware name of Rockwell Automation, dates back to 1903 in Milwaukee, USA. Seven Star LLC sources and supplies Allen-Bradley PLC and I/O modules, communication adapters and PowerFlex drives for plants in Oman, matching catalog number, series letter and firmware against the manufacturer's documentation.
Allen-Bradley product families listed here
Current controller platforms on this page are ControlLogix, with the 1756-L85E ControlLogix 5580 controller and the 1756-PA72 chassis power supply, and CompactLogix 5380, with the 5069-L320ER and 5069-L340ERM. Distributed I/O is represented by POINT I/O: the 1734-AENTR dual-port EtherNet/IP adapter and the 1734-IB8 digital input module. Allen-Bradley drives listed include the PowerFlex 525 and PowerFlex 755. For installed systems there are SLC 500 parts: the 1746-A10 chassis, 1746-NI16I analog input module, 1747-ASB remote I/O adapter, 1747-KE interface and 1747-M13 memory module.
Where Allen-Bradley hardware is used
ControlLogix and CompactLogix controllers run packaged equipment and plant utilities: compressor and pump skids, water and wastewater plants, power distribution, material handling and packaging lines. PowerFlex drives control pumps, fans and conveyors. Many SLC 500 racks are still in service.
Ordering Allen-Bradley modules and drives: what we need
Send the full catalog number, the series letter and, for controllers and communication modules, the firmware revision printed on the side label. Compatibility with an existing project depends on these. For PowerFlex drives, give the complete catalog string, which encodes voltage, current rating, enclosure and options, plus the motor nameplate data. For SLC 500 parts, tell us the rack size and processor so that we can check slot and power supply loading in the manufacturer's manuals. A label photo avoids most mistakes.
