Kamstrup MULTICAL 303 Compact Heat and Cooling Meter
Description
A compact heat and cooling meter for apartments and small circuits
The Kamstrup MULTICAL 303 is described by the manufacturer as a compact all-round heat and cooling meter that can be installed almost anywhere because of its small dimensions. It consists of an ultrasonic flow sensor, an electronic display unit and a Pt500 sensor set, calibrated separately and assembled into one heat, cooling or combined heat/cooling meter. The metal flow sensor tolerates continuous temperatures up to 130 °C, is protected against condensation and suits both PN16 and PN25 installations. Because it uses ultrasound without moving parts, Kamstrup states that its lifetime is long even in magnetite-containing heating systems. The display can be turned during installation so it can be read in tight plant cupboards.

Communication and ordering the type number
Communication is selected in the type number: configurable wired M-Bus (code 20) or configurable Wireless M-Bus at 868.95 MHz EU (code 30). The M-Bus connection is galvanically separated, and the Wireless M-Bus telegram can be configured for mode C1, T1/C1 BSI or T1/C1 OMS with 128-bit AES encryption, according to the earlier single-model Kamstrup data sheet. The type number follows 303-x-xx-x-xx, where the first letter is W, T or C for the meter function, followed by the flow sensor code, the meter type digit (2 heat with MID module B+D, 3 or 6 heat/cooling, 4 national approval, 5 cooling), the country code assigned by Kamstrup on order, the temperature sensor set (51, 52, 61, 62, 71 or 72), the supply (1 or 9) and the communication code.
Selection and installation notes
If the calculator will see media below ambient temperature or above 90 °C, Kamstrup recommends wall mounting it on the bracket. The flow sensor cable is 1.5 m and not detachable; the temperature sensor cables are detachable, but separating components requires reverification. Compare the larger MULTICAL family members, such as the Kamstrup MULTICAL 403, if you need flanged sizes or mains supply, and see all products under Flowmeters.
How the Kamstrup MULTICAL 303 works
Ultrasonic pulses travel through the water in the flow sensor, and the time difference between the two directions gives the flow speed. Two Pt500 sensors measure the supply and return temperatures. The calculator multiplies the flow by the temperature difference to get the energy, and the energy builds up on the display. With no moving parts in the flow path, the meter does not wear the way a mechanical meter can.

Installation, commissioning and maintenance notes for the MULTICAL 303
Fit the flow sensor in the correct direction with the unions and seals supplied. Mount the temperature sensors in the supply and return pipes. Turn the display to a readable angle and seal the meter. Check the first readings against the expected flow. Keep the cable runs away from heat sources.

About brand
Ultrasonic measurement with no moving parts is the idea behind the flowIQ water meters and ultrasonic energy meters of Kamstrup. The Danish company, founded in 1946 in Skanderborg, makes meters for water, heat and cooling that are read remotely. Seven Star LLC lists the Kamstrup flowIQ water meters and the MULTICAL 403 energy meter, and supplies Kamstrup meters to utilities, district cooling operators and building owners in Oman and the GCC.
Kamstrup meter families on this page
The flowIQ 2200 is an ultrasonic smart water meter for residential, multi-unit and commercial connections. The flowIQ 4200 is the bulk water meter, made in five sizes from DN125 to DN300. The MULTICAL 403 is an ultrasonic thermal energy meter that can be supplied as a heat meter, a cooling meter or a combined heat and cooling meter, with a matched pair of temperature sensors and communication modules.
Ordering Kamstrup meters: what we need
Send the type number from the meter front if you are matching installed units. Otherwise give nominal flow and pipe size, connection type and meter length, heat or cooling service, where the flow sensor sits (supply or return pipe), the temperature sensor type and cable length, and the communication you need, for example wired M-Bus or a radio option.

The datasheet lists four flow sensors: qp 0.6 m3/h with G3/4B x 110 mm, qp 1.5 m3/h with G3/4B x 110 mm or G1B x 130 mm, and qp 2.5 m3/h with G1B x 130 mm. They are delivered as standard with a 100:1 dynamic range and are type-approved for 100:1 and 250:1.
Yes. The type letter selects heat (W), heat/cooling (T) or cooling (C). Media temperature ranges are 2 to 130 °C for heat and heat/cooling meters and 2 to 50 °C for cooling meters.
By battery only: one A-cell for up to 8 years or two A-cells for up to 16 years, depending on communication and set-up. The datasheet states that battery life is affected by transmission interval and datagram contents.
Flow sensor position in the inlet or outlet pipe, energy unit and resolution, date and time and the M-Bus address can be set by button, without special tools.
No. Seven Star LLC is an independent industrial supplier in Muscat and is not a distributor or agent of Kamstrup. We check the type number against Kamstrup documentation before quoting.
