CEMP E3H/D and E4H/D Flameproof Brake Motors
Description
Flameproof brake motors with the brake in a separate Ex db enclosure
The CEMP E3H/D and E4H/D series are explosion proof brake motors in IE3 and IE4 efficiency, gas and dust version. The motor enclosure is Ex db flameproof and the brake sits in its own Ex db enclosure, with a terminal box in Ex db or Ex eb. The brochure lists multiple brake torque choices and AC or DC disc brakes with or without a rectifier, which makes the series suitable for cranes, hoists, lifting systems, bulk handling, capstans and winches.

Materials and options
For frames 63 to 250 and 280 to 355 the endshields and terminal box are cast iron EN-GJL-200, the fan cover and rain cap are steel, the fan is non-sparking thermoplastic or aluminium (brass for mining application motors), the shaft is C45 steel, the rotor is die cast aluminium and the winding is insulation class F or H. Fasteners are galvanized 8.8 or A4 stainless steel, and the brake enclosure and brake terminal box are cast iron. Options include forced ventilation, encoder, stainless steel fan cover and rain canopy, tailor-made auxiliary terminal boxes, C5-M painting, hand brake release, space heater, PTC or Pt-100 sensors and a microswitch.
How the CEMP E3H/D and E4H/D flameproof brake motors work
A brake motor holds a load when the power is off. In this series, a disc brake is fitted at the rear of the motor and is held open by a coil while the motor runs. When the supply is cut, springs close the brake and stop the shaft. Since the motor is for explosive atmospheres, both the motor and the brake sit in separate Ex db flameproof enclosures. The enclosure is built so that an explosion inside cannot ignite the gas outside. The terminal box is available in Ex db or Ex eb form.
Where the E3H/D and E4H/D are used
- Cranes and hoists in hazardous areas.
- Lifting systems and winches.
- Capstans and bulk handling equipment.
- Oil, gas and chemical plants with gas and dust risks.
- Machines that need exact stopping and holding.
Selection checklist for the E3H/D and E4H/D
- Gas group IIB or IIC, or dust group IIIB or IIIC, and the temperature class.
- ATEX category II 2G, II 2D or II 2GD.
- Power of 0.75 to 200 kW, frame size 80 to 250 for IE3 and IE4.
- Poles: 2, 4, 6, 8, or dual speed.
- Supply of 400 V at 50 Hz.
- Brake type: AC or DC disc brake, with or without a rectifier.
- Brake torque choice for the load.
- Ingress protection of IP55, IP56, IP65 or IP66.
- Duty: continuous S1, or S2, S3, S4, S6 or S9.
- Ambient temperature, with the low temperature design for the larger frames.
Installation, commissioning and maintenance notes
Follow the conditions of the certificate, and check the markings against the area classification. Keep the flameproof joints clean and undamaged, since scratches or paint on the joint surface reduce the protection. Do not open the enclosures in the hazardous area while powered. Check the brake air gap and wear at the service intervals, and keep a record of the brake tests. Note the brake supply conditions listed by the maker for each frame.
Requesting a quotation for the CEMP E3H/D and E4H/D
Send the power, the poles, the zone and the brake torque. Seven Star LLC serves industrial customers in Oman and the GCC and replies with a quotation based on the information provided.
Brake in a separate enclosure
A separate flameproof brake enclosure keeps the brake parts and their wear dust apart from the motor windings.
Options
The options list includes forced ventilation, an encoder, a stainless steel fan cover with a rain canopy and special painting, for demanding sites.
Certification records
Keep the certificate numbers and the conditions of use with the area documents.
Spares and service planning
Plan the spare brake discs, coils and rectifiers with the maintenance team, and record the model and serial numbers from the motor plate when you order.
Documents and quotation
Provide frame or kW, poles, brake torque and AC or DC supply, duty cycle, voltage, zone, gas or dust group, temperature class and ambient range. The brochure gives series data rather than torque tables, so brake torque and certificate scope must be confirmed for the exact motor.

About brand
CEMP is an Italian maker of flameproof and hazardous-area electric motors, founded in 1954 and based in Senago near Milan, and part of WEG.
Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list CEMP motors for oil and gas and process plants in Oman and the GCC.
CEMP product series
Flameproof motors include the E3A/E4A Series Ex db motors in IE3 and IE4, the E3H/D and E4H/D flameproof brake motors and the AAB30/AAC30 aluminium frame 56 Ex db motors.
The TerraMAX TC Series (TCN, TCT, TCE) are motors in IE3 and IE4 efficiency.
Flameproof Ex db motors contain any internal explosion so it cannot ignite the surrounding gas. Motors are selected by gas group, temperature class, power, speed and mounting, and IE3 and IE4 versions reduce energy use.
Brake motors hold loads on hoists and conveyors in hazardous areas.
Where CEMP motors are used
Pumps, fans, compressors and hoists in refineries, gas plants, chemical plants and other hazardous areas.
Ordering CEMP motors: what we need
Send the series, power, poles, voltage and frequency, frame and mounting, and the Ex marking and temperature class required.
