Brand:

KOBOLD TMU Coriolis Mass Flow Meter, 60 to 80 000 kg/h

Description

Compact dual-tube Coriolis meter for mass flow, density and temperature

The KOBOLD TMU is a second-generation dual-tube Coriolis sensor for direct mass flow measurement of almost all liquids and gases, with density and calculated volume flow derived from the same measurement. Two parallel tubes are force-vibrated at resonance; the mass flow and the Coriolis effect twist the inlet and outlet legs out of phase, and the UMC transmitter converts the phase shift into a linear output proportional to mass flow.

KOBOLD lists the TMU for chemical, petrochemical, oil and gas, food and pharmaceutical use, and for dosing and for loading and unloading applications. The design is compact and lightweight, immune to external vibration and pipeline-induced stress, and available in several tube materials, with optional sensor heating.

Sizes and ranges

Type Maximum range kg/h Nominal flow at 1 bar kg/h Zero point stability kg/h
TMU-x008 600 330 0.06
TMU-x010 2500 1150 0.25
TMU-x015 12 000 5250 1.2
TMU-x025 30 000 20 000 3
TMU-x040 60 000 55 000 6
TMU-x050 80 000 74 000 8

The letter x in the type is the tube material: S for stainless steel and H for Hastelloy C-22 in the order code. The nominal flow is the flow at a pressure drop of 1 bar (0.87 bar for the x040). Because accuracy includes the zero point stability, a meter run well below its nominal range has a larger relative error, so size the meter on the normal flow rather than only on the line size.

Ordering and ship approval

The sensor order example is TMU-S 008 6010 A 0 0 A 0 1 0 0 K: material, line size, process connection with installation length, heating option and further options. Connections include ¼” and ½” NPT female, DN 10 to DN 25 PN 40 form B1 flanges, and ASME B16.5 class 150, 300 and 600 RF flanges. Order a transmitter separately.

For DNV ship approval the datasheet requires a maximum process temperature of 150 °C, maximum 16 bar, a 3.1 certificate, an approved remote-mounted transmitter, and not using 1.4401 or 1.4404 materials in salt water. Confirm before ordering: density, viscosity, process pressure and temperature, flow rate range and the Ex rating of both sensor and transmitter.

How the KOBOLD TMU works

Two parallel tubes are made to vibrate at resonance. When fluid flows through them, the Coriolis force twists the inlet and outlet legs out of phase. The transmitter measures this phase shift, which is proportional to the mass flow. The tube frequency gives the density, and a sensor gives the temperature.

Installation, commissioning and maintenance notes for the KOBOLD TMU

Fit the sensor in a line that stays full of liquid. Support the pipework so no stress reaches the sensor. Wire the sensor to the UMC transmitter with the supplied cable. Perform a zero point adjustment with the line filled and the flow stopped.
