Allen-Bradley 1769-IF4 Compact I/O 4-Channel Analog Input
Description
Four configurable analog inputs for CompactLogix racks
The Allen-Bradley 1769-IF4 is the general-purpose analog input module of the 1769 Compact I/O family. It reads four channels that can be wired as differential or single-ended, with each channel set to a voltage range of 0-10 V, 0-5 V, 1-5 V or ±10 V, or to a current range of 0-20 mA or 4-20 mA. That mix of ranges makes it a common choice for pressure, level, flow and temperature transmitters on skid-mounted CompactLogix systems.
Resolution is 14 bits unipolar and 14 bits plus sign bipolar, with accuracy of ±0.2 percent of full scale for voltage and ±0.35 percent for current at 25 °C. Four filter settings, from 50 Hz to 500 Hz, trade noise rejection against speed: the 50 Hz setting gives a 60 ms step response and 22 ms channel update, while the 500 Hz setting gives 6 ms and 4 ms.

Wiring and power notes
Each input has its own plus and minus terminals; current inputs use an internal 250 ohm shunt and voltage inputs present 220 kilohms. Use shielded cable for field signals. Both input terminals must stay within ±10 V DC of analog common, and exceeding the overload ratings of ±30 V DC or ±32 mA can damage the input circuit. The module also accepts an optional Class 2 24 V DC supply of 20.4 to 26.4 V DC, which brings the 24 V backplane draw to zero.
The module needs a 1769 power supply and must lie within eight modules of it. When designing the rack, add the 120 mA at 5.1 V DC and 60 mA at 24 V DC to the bus budget of the controller or power supply.
Where the 1769-IF4 fits
Use the 1769-IF4 when a mix of 4-20 mA loops and 0-10 V signals is needed. For sixteen 4-20 mA points in one slot, the 1769-IF16C is the high-density alternative; for analog outputs see the 1769-OF4 and 1769-OF8C. The terminal block, door label and door are replaceable parts that are ordered separately.
Documents and quotation
The Rockwell Automation 1769 Compact I/O specifications document is attached and contains the full tables, wiring diagrams and certification table. Related products are in our PLC and I/O cards category, including the 5069-L320ER CompactLogix 5380 controller. Confirm the exact catalog number, series letter and firmware or hardware revision on the product label, and the compatibility with your existing system, before ordering. Stock and lead time are confirmed at quotation.
How the 1769-IF4 Works
Each channel of the 1769-IF4 is measured by a delta-sigma converter. For voltage ranges the signal is applied across a high-impedance input; for current ranges the loop current flows through the internal 250 ohm shunt and the converter reads the resulting voltage. Differential wiring measures each channel between its own plus and minus terminals and rejects noise that appears on both conductors, while single-ended wiring ties the minus terminals to a common reference.
The filter frequency chosen for each channel sets how long the converter averages the signal. The 50 Hz and 60 Hz filters give strong rejection of mains interference with a slower update; the 250 Hz and 500 Hz filters update faster with less filtering. Each channel can be enabled or disabled, and the module reports over-range and under-range status bits that the CompactLogix or MicroLogix 1500 program can use for alarms.
1769-IF4 Selection & Ordering Guide
- Channel count: four channels in the 1769-IF4; the 1769-IF8 offers eight, and the 1769-IF16C sixteen current inputs.
- Signal types: the 1769-IF4 handles both voltage and current on each channel, which suits panels with mixed instruments.
- Coated version: order the 1769-IF4K where a conformal-coated module is required.
- Platform: used in 1769 banks with a CompactLogix controller, as MicroLogix 1500 expansion I/O or with a 1769 adapter.
- Power: confirm the 1769 power supply and the bus current budget, or plan the optional external 24V DC supply.
Send the series letter and controller type when you request a quote. Our team can help confirm the correct ordering code.
Installation & Maintenance
Remove power before installing or removing the module. Wire each channel with shielded twisted-pair cable, grounding the shield at one end only, and route the cable away from power, motor and drive conductors. Tighten terminal screws to the specified torque. In service, monitor the channel status bits, check readings with a calibrated loop calibrator or voltage source, and keep the enclosure ventilated and clean.

About brand
Catalog numbers beginning 1756, 1734, 1746 or 5069 are read at a glance by anyone who maintains Allen-Bradley control panels. The brand, the control hardware name of Rockwell Automation, dates back to 1903 in Milwaukee, USA. Seven Star LLC sources and supplies Allen-Bradley PLC and I/O modules, communication adapters and PowerFlex drives for plants in Oman, matching catalog number, series letter and firmware against the manufacturer's documentation.
Allen-Bradley product families listed here
Current controller platforms on this page are ControlLogix, with the 1756-L85E ControlLogix 5580 controller and the 1756-PA72 chassis power supply, and CompactLogix 5380, with the 5069-L320ER and 5069-L340ERM. Distributed I/O is represented by POINT I/O: the 1734-AENTR dual-port EtherNet/IP adapter and the 1734-IB8 digital input module. Where Allen-Bradley hardware is used
ControlLogix and CompactLogix controllers run packaged equipment and plant utilities: compressor and pump skids, water and wastewater plants, power distribution, material handling and packaging lines. PowerFlex drives control pumps, fans and conveyors. Many SLC 500 racks are still in service.
Ordering Allen-Bradley modules and drives: what we need
Send the full catalog number, the series letter and, for controllers and communication modules, the firmware revision printed on the side label. Compatibility with an existing project depends on these. For PowerFlex drives, give the complete catalog string, which encodes voltage, current rating, enclosure and options, plus the motor nameplate data. For SLC 500 parts, tell us the rack size and processor so that we can check slot and power supply loading in the manufacturer's manuals. A label photo avoids most mistakes.
