Allen-Bradley 1762-IF4 MicroLogix 1200 4-Channel Analog Input Module
Description
A 4-channel analog input expansion module
The Allen-Bradley 1762-IF4 is an analog input expansion module for the 1762 bus of the MicroLogix 1200 controller, as titled in its installation instructions. It has four differential channels that each accept a voltage signal of -10 to +10V DC or a current signal of 4 to 20 mA.
The converter resolves 15 bits bipolar, and each channel reports overrange, underrange or open-circuit conditions through status bits. That makes it useful for pressure, level and temperature transmitters with standard analog outputs.

Channel configuration and filters
Every channel has its own data format, type and range, and filter select setting. The filter select table in the installation instructions lists 60 Hz and 50 Hz filters with a 4-channel conversion time of 450 ms and 530 ms and attenuation above 55 dB, shorter 250 ms and 290 ms options with above 20 dB, and a no-filter setting at 130 ms.
The module draws 40 mA at 5V DC and 80 mA at 24V DC from the expansion bus, so the bus current budget of the controller should be checked when several modules are fitted. The inputs are not isolated channel to channel.
Mounting and wiring
The module is 90 mm high, 40.4 mm wide and 87 mm deep and weighs 235 g. It carries an IP20 rating and is open-style, so it goes into a cabinet. Operating temperature is -20 to +65 °C. Shielded Belden 8761 cable is the recommended cable.
Do not remove the protective debris strip until all wiring is finished. Typical accuracy is within 0.24% of full scale at 25 °C. Input protection is rated at ±30V for voltage and ±32 mA for current inputs.
The module reports problems through the module condition array, so a program can detect an invalid filter selection or an open circuit before the process value is used in the control logic.
Documents and quotation
The 1762-IN012 installation instructions contain the tables used here, together with wiring diagrams and the configuration word layout. For a quotation send the 1762-IF4 reference, the series, quantity and the controller type. Confirm the exact catalog number before ordering. See PLC & I/O Cards for related items.
How the 1762-IF4 Works
Each of the four channels of the 1762-IF4 is a differential input: the module measures the signal between the plus and minus terminals of the channel instead of against a shared reference. Noise that is picked up equally on both conductors of a twisted pair is therefore largely rejected, which is why the common-mode figures in the table above matter on long cable runs between field instruments and the panel. When a channel is configured for current, the loop current flows through an internal precision resistor and the module converts the resulting voltage drop.
The sigma-delta converter integrates the input over a period set by the filter selection. The 50 Hz and 60 Hz filters average out mains-frequency interference very effectively but give a slower update, while the faster settings respond more quickly with less rejection. The converted value is written to the input image of the controller in the data format chosen for that channel, so the ladder program can scale it, compare it with alarm limits or feed it to a PID instruction.
1762-IF4 Selection & Ordering Guide
- Controller family: the 1762-IF4 belongs to Bulletin 1762 expansion I/O, which Rockwell Automation lists together with its MicroLogix controllers in the MicroLogix selection guide. Check the expansion power budget of the controller before adding modules.
- Signal type: choose the 1762-IF4 for ±10 V voltage or 4–20 mA current inputs. For combined inputs and outputs the 1762-IF2OF2 is the usual alternative, the 1762-OF4 provides analog outputs only, and the 1762-IR4 (RTD) and 1762-IT4 (thermocouple) modules read temperature sensors directly.
- Series letter: when you replace an installed module, quote the series letter on its label so the replacement matches the existing program and configuration.
- Cabling: plan one shielded twisted pair, such as Belden 8761, for each channel.
When you request a quote for the 1762-IF4, list the controller catalog number, the other modules in the expansion bank and the signal type on each channel. Our team can help confirm the correct ordering code.
Installation & Maintenance
Mount the module on a DIN rail or panel inside an enclosure, beside the controller or the previous expansion module, and connect the expansion bus cable before power is applied. Always isolate power before connecting or disconnecting the bus cable or removing a module. Route analog cables away from AC power, motor and variable-speed drive cables, ground the cable shield at one end only (normally at the panel), and keep the unshielded length at the terminals as short as possible.
For routine maintenance, check terminal tightness during planned shutdowns, keep the cabinet clean and within the rated temperature range, and use the over-range, under-range and open-circuit status bits to spot a failed transmitter or a broken wire. If a reading drifts, inject a known signal from a calibrated loop calibrator at the module terminals before deciding to replace hardware.
Typical Applications in Oman & the GCC
- Water and wastewater pumping stations: wet-well level, discharge pressure and flow transmitters.
- Utility and process skids in oil and gas facilities that use a MicroLogix controller for local logic.
- HVAC and district cooling plants: chilled-water temperature and differential pressure signals.
- Reverse-osmosis and desalination units: pressure, flow and conductivity transmitters with 4–20 mA outputs.
- Packaging and food machines that need a few analog measurements alongside discrete I/O.
In hot plant rooms, keep the cabinet ventilated or cooled so the 1762-IF4 stays within its –20 to +65 °C operating range.

About brand
Catalog numbers beginning 1756, 1734, 1746 or 5069 are read at a glance by anyone who maintains Allen-Bradley control panels. The brand, the control hardware name of Rockwell Automation, dates back to 1903 in Milwaukee, USA. Seven Star LLC sources and supplies Allen-Bradley PLC and I/O modules, communication adapters and PowerFlex drives for plants in Oman, matching catalog number, series letter and firmware against the manufacturer's documentation.

Where Allen-Bradley hardware is used
ControlLogix and CompactLogix controllers run packaged equipment and plant utilities: compressor and pump skids, water and wastewater plants, power distribution, material handling and packaging lines. PowerFlex drives control pumps, fans and conveyors. Many SLC 500 racks are still in service.
Ordering Allen-Bradley modules and drives: what we need
Send the full catalog number, the series letter and, for controllers and communication modules, the firmware revision printed on the side label. Compatibility with an existing project depends on these. For PowerFlex drives, give the complete catalog string, which encodes voltage, current rating, enclosure and options, plus the motor nameplate data. For SLC 500 parts, tell us the rack size and processor so that we can check slot and power supply loading in the manufacturer's manuals. A label photo avoids most mistakes.
