Brand:

Datakom D-300 MK3 Genset Controller

Description

A cost-effective genset controller that grows through plug-in modules

The D-300 MK3 is described by Datakom as a cost-effective modular genset controller ready for internet monitoring through plug-in modules. It is the mid-range model of the D-series: a 128×64 graphical LCD, true RMS measurements, full engine protection and programmable AMF, ATS, remote-start or manual-start behaviour, but without the synchronising functions of the D-500 and D-700. That makes it a practical choice for single standby gensets in buildings, pumping stations, telecom sites and construction camps where the genset only has to start on mains failure, carry the load and report its status. It also fits as a replacement controller for diesel or gas sets, and is listed with our other diesel generator spare parts.

Functions, plug-in modules and communication

Four plug-in options are listed on the datasheet: a GSM modem (2G, 3G or 4G), 100 Mbps Ethernet, Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g/n), and RS-485 or RS-232 ports (2400-57600 baud). The built-in USB device port is used for configuration with the free Rainbow Plus PC program, and communication features include Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP/IP, SMS and e-mail sending, geo-locating through GSM, and internet central monitoring (Rainbow SCADA, with fleet display on a map and smartphone support).

  • Operating modes: AMF unit, ATS unit, remote start controller, manual start controller, engine controller and remote display panel.
  • Topologies: 3 phase 4 wire star and delta, 3 phase 3 wire with 2 CTs, 2 phase 3 wire and single phase 2 wire.
  • Protection and logic: overload IDMT, excess power, reverse power, current and voltage unbalance, load shedding with dummy load, fuel filling and fuel theft alarms, DPF regeneration and PLC functionality.
  • Engine features: both CANBUS-J1939 and MPU, idle speed control, battery charge run, combat mode, automatic fuel pump control, 3 service alarms and 400 event logs with full snapshot.
  • Scheduling: multiple automatic exerciser, weekly operation schedule and dual mutual standby with equal ageing of gensets.

Selection and installation notes

Select the D-300 MK3 when you need the D-series display, event log and communication options on a standalone set. If the application needs synchronising, closed transfers or mains decoupling protection, step up to the D-500 MK3 or D-700 MK3 instead. The installation instructions explain that the program mode is entered by holding both MENU buttons for 5 seconds, that password level 1 is factory 1234 and level 2 is 9876, and that the factory defaults include AMF functionality, a 500 A CT primary, 230 V and 50 Hz nominal values, a 6 second crank timer, 3 start attempts and a 120 second cooldown timer. Pushbuttons select TEST, RUN, AUTO and OFF, and holding the service key for 5 seconds resets the service request counters.

Fit it in a 151 x 111 mm cut-out on a Type 1 enclosure with the rear plastic brackets. The IP65 front rating needs the optional gasket, and the display heater option extends operation down to -40 C, which is relevant for cold-start outdoor enclosures. Confirm the engine type, battery voltage and CT ratio before ordering.

The D-300 MK3 specification suits unattended standby sets that must start automatically, such as a diesel genset behind a water pumping station, a hotel or villa backup set, or a telecom tower. Features that help in hot regions are the 95% humidity rating without condensation, the -20 C to 70 C operating range, and the high-temperature, non-flammable ABS/PC case. Event logging (400 events with a full snapshot), the service-request alarms and the weekly exerciser let maintenance teams prove that the set actually ran and when it is due for service, while the optional GSM or Ethernet module allows the status to be watched from a central monitoring screen.

Selection and installation notes

A generator controller is selected from the start and transfer logic needed, the number of sets, the engine and alternator signals and the communication required. Check the battery supply range, wire the voltage and current inputs and the engine sensors as the manual shows, set the engine and protection parameters from the engine and alternator data and test the start, stop, transfer and every protection with the set running before handover. Keep a copy of the parameter file with the site documents.

Information needed for a quotation

Send the full model code, the quantity, the delivery location in Oman or the GCC, the intended use and any accessories needed, so that the complete package can be quoted together.

Documents and supply information

The manufacturer data sheet is attached to this page and should be read together with the project specification and the site risk assessment before a purchase is confirmed. Ratings, standards and dimensions are quoted as printed on that sheet. Lead time, stock position and certificates available with the shipment are confirmed in the quotation, and we supply to Oman and the wider GCC region for industrial, utility and building services projects.
