The Reelcraft E9300 OMPBW is the biggest oil reel in this selection: Series E9000 ultimate duty, spring retractable, with a full-width frame that Reelcraft says gives the greatest mounting area and strength in its class. The code means 3/4 in. oil hose, 50 ft, medium pressure, bottom-wind guide roller.

It is aimed at portable service trucks, permanent service points and plant work areas. The 117 lb reel has a baked-on powder coat finish, a full-flow swivel combined with bearing areas for long service life, and a latch and ratchet made of heavy-duty cast aluminum with large surface area to resist wear.

How the E9000 code is built

E9300 OMPBW decodes as Series E9000 reel, 3/4 in. hose size, medium-pressure oil (OMP) and bottom-wind (BW). The flyer lists neighbours such as the E9350 OMPBW with hose (1250 psi) and low-pressure air/water E9000 reels at 250 to 300 psi. Because this code is the reel without hose, the oil hose must be ordered separately, and the manual requires the inlet hose pressure rating to equal or exceed the pressure rating of the reel.

Installation rules from instructions 613-193

• The swivel union is packed separately in the carton; use PTFE (Teflon) tape for a sound seal.
• A flexible hose connection to the supply is mandatory; non-flexible connections void the warranty.
• Consult Reelcraft for the proper spring when installing reels above 16 ft.
• The spring motor case is permanently sealed; any attempt to remove the spring motor may cause serious injury.
• The latching mechanism can be removed for constant-tension use, according to the manual.

A hose or cord reel is selected from the fluid or service, the hose size and length, the working pressure and the mounting position. Check that the hose, swivel and fittings are rated for the fluid and the pressure, mount the reel on a solid surface with the bolts and base the maker recommends, set the spring tension with the hose held, guide the hose to the reel without sharp bends and replace the hose at the first sign of wear. Do not use the reel for a fluid it is not rated for.
