Allen-Bradley 5069-OB16F Compact 5000 Fast DC Output Module
Description
Sixteen fast sourcing outputs for precise timing
The Allen-Bradley 5069-OB16F is the fast version of the Compact 5000 sixteen-point 12/24 V DC sourcing output module. It shares the electrical limits of the standard 5069-OB16, 0.5 A per channel and 8 A per module, but shortens the output delay from 100 microseconds to 10 microseconds and the minimum pulse width from 200 to 20 microseconds.
That speed is needed where outputs trigger cameras, reject gates, valves in a high-speed process or other time-critical actuators, and where the controller must repeat the timing from one cycle to the next.

| Operating / non-operating temperature | 0 to +60 C / -40 to +85 C |
| Humidity | 5 to 95 percent non-condensing |
| Vibration / shock | 5 g at 10-500 Hz / 30 g operating, 50 g non-operating |
| Mounting | DIN rail beside the controller, with removable terminal block (5069-RTB, ordered separately) |
Field-side supply
The module takes its field power on separate LA+ and LA- terminals rather than from the SA bus, so each output group can have its own field supply. It still has to sit on a DC SA bus, and the technical data states it cannot share a bus with AC-type modules unless a 5069-FPD separates them. A 5.6 kOhm, 0.5 W loading resistor is suggested for very small loads to defeat leakage.
Selection notes
Use the OB16F only when timing matters, since the standard 5069-OB16 is cheaper for ordinary solenoids. The output is not capable of driving 1 A loads directly, so inductive or high-current devices need an interposing relay. Confirm series and terminal blocks before ordering and check all values against the manufacturer data.
The OB16F is listed with a 10 us output delay and a 20 us minimum pulse width at 0.5 A, against 100 us and 200 us for the standard OB16. Drift is given as plus or minus 10 ns per degree C, which matters when outputs are synchronised with other time-stamped signals.
Deciding where the fast module belongs
In most Compact 5000 systems only a handful of outputs are genuinely time-critical. A practical approach is to list every output in the application, mark those whose timing directly affects product quality or machine synchronisation, and place only those on the 5069-OB16F. Ordinary indicating lamps, slow solenoids and permissive signals can stay on standard output modules, which keeps the fast module’s channels free for the jobs that need them and makes the design easier to understand for maintenance staff.
- Identify each actuator that must react within a tight, repeatable window, such as a camera trigger or reject gate.
- Check each load against the per-channel and per-module current limits in the specification table.
- Flag inductive or higher-current devices that need an interposing relay, as noted in the selection notes above.
- Plan the field supply for the LA+ and LA- terminals and confirm the module will sit on a DC SA bus.
Wiring and commissioning practice
Fast outputs are only as repeatable as the wiring and loads they drive. Keep output cables to time-critical devices short and route them away from motor and drive power cables to limit noise. Terminate conductors carefully in the removable terminal block and label every channel so the drawing, the controller tags and the field devices match. During commissioning, test each channel individually with the load connected, then run the machine at normal speed and confirm that the actuators respond consistently from cycle to cycle. Where a very small load is connected, consider the loading resistor suggestion given above so off-state leakage does not leave the device partly energised.
Using the timing figures
The listed output delay and minimum pulse width describe the module itself; the overall response of a station also depends on the controller task timing, the network and the reaction time of the actuator. Treat the module figures as one part of the timing budget and verify the complete chain on the running machine.
Panels in Gulf conditions
Control panels in Oman and the GCC regularly face high ambient temperatures, fine dust and coastal humidity. The module’s operating temperature and non-condensing humidity limits apply to the air inside the enclosure, which can be much warmer than the room on a summer afternoon. Size panel cooling for the worst season, keep enclosure doors closed, and avoid condensation when cooled panels are opened in humid weather. Periodic inspection should include checking terminal tightness, looking for dust build-up on the DIN rail assembly, and comparing the module’s dissipation with the panel’s thermal design whenever outputs are added.
What to include in an RFQ
- Catalog number 5069-OB16F and quantity, plus the matching 5069-RTB terminal blocks.
- Whether a 5069-FPD is needed to separate DC and AC bus sections.
- Any standard 5069-OB16 modules required for the non-critical outputs.

About brand
Catalog numbers beginning 1756, 1734, 1746 or 5069 are read at a glance by anyone who maintains Allen-Bradley control panels. The brand, the control hardware name of Rockwell Automation, dates back to 1903 in Milwaukee, USA. Seven Star LLC sources and supplies Allen-Bradley PLC and I/O modules, communication adapters and PowerFlex drives for plants in Oman, matching catalog number, series letter and firmware against the manufacturer's documentation.
Allen-Bradley product families listed here
Current controller platforms on this page are ControlLogix, with the 1756-L85E ControlLogix 5580 controller and the 1756-PA72 chassis power supply, and CompactLogix 5380, with the 5069-L320ER and 5069-L340ERM. Distributed I/O is represented by POINT I/O: the 1734-AENTR dual-port EtherNet/IP adapter and the 1734-IB8 digital input module. Where Allen-Bradley hardware is used
ControlLogix and CompactLogix controllers run packaged equipment and plant utilities: compressor and pump skids, water and wastewater plants, power distribution, material handling and packaging lines. PowerFlex drives control pumps, fans and conveyors. Many SLC 500 racks are still in service.
Ordering Allen-Bradley modules and drives: what we need
Send the full catalog number, the series letter and, for controllers and communication modules, the firmware revision printed on the side label. Compatibility with an existing project depends on these. For PowerFlex drives, give the complete catalog string, which encodes voltage, current rating, enclosure and options, plus the motor nameplate data. For SLC 500 parts, tell us the rack size and processor so that we can check slot and power supply loading in the manufacturer's manuals. A label photo avoids most mistakes.
