Posi Lock 108 17-Ton 3-Jaw Manual Gear and Bearing Puller

Description

The Posi Lock 108 is a three-jaw manual gear and bearing puller with a 17-ton rating. It uses a center bolt turned with a hex socket rather than a hydraulic cylinder, which makes it a light, self-contained tool for routine bearing, pulley and coupling removal around motors, pumps and fans.

A manual three-jaw puller with a self-centring cage

The 108 carries the Posi Lock Safety Cage, so the three jaws open and close together around the part and stay square to the shaft. The operator turns a three-quarter inch center bolt with a one-inch hex socket; no pump, hose or gauge is involved, and the whole tool weighs 14 lb (6.4 kg).

That makes the 108 easy to keep in a service van or maintenance cabinet for the common jobs where a hydraulic puller would be oversized: small and medium bearings, V-belt pulleys, fan hubs and coupling halves.

Using the 108 within its limits

Reach is 8 inches and jaw spread runs from 0.75 to 12 inches. The maker lists a maximum torque of 220 ft-lb (297 N-m) on the center bolt, and the instruction sheet says never to exceed the maximum torque rating of the pullers. A tip protector fits over the bolt end to protect the shaft center.

Compared with the 208 two-jaw model, the 108 offers a higher listed capacity (17 tons against 12 tons for the 208) and a higher torque limit (220 against 150 ft-lb). If the part is stuck harder than the torque limit allows, move up to a hydraulic puller such as the PHA-108 instead of extending the wrench.

Follow the instruction sheet for all models: set the jaws behind the component, snug the cage so the jaws seat, centre the bolt on the shaft and turn it steadily. Wear eye protection, keep hands clear of pinch points and cover the job if the part could break. Check the jaws, cage and bolt thread for wear or damage before use, and replace worn parts promptly.

Ordering and accessory choices

The 108 family is offered in standard, long (L) and extra-long (XL) jaw versions, and the maker publishes separate accessory-item and parts lists for the 108. A tip protector is sold for the center bolt, and the TJ-1 transmission bearing puller and the PM10 and MPS16 sets are shown as related products. When the same crew also pulls bearings from deep inside a housing, check whether the long-jaw version gives the reach you need rather than ordering the standard tool and finding it falls short.

About brand

Posi Lock Puller is a US maker of gear and bearing pullers, founded in 1978 in Cooperstown, North Dakota, and part of Hydraulic Technologies. Its pullers use a safety cage that holds the jaws on the part.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list Posi Lock pullers and tool sets for maintenance workshops in Oman and the GCC.

Posi Lock product series

Hydraulic pullers include the PHA-108 10 ton, PHA-113 25 ton and PHA-116 50 ton three-jaw pullers, the PHA-113IE 25 ton internal and external puller, the PHS-208 two-jaw self-contained puller and the PH-100T 100 ton three-jaw puller.

Manual tools include the 108 17 ton three-jaw gear and bearing puller and the TK-107 4-in-1 internal and external puller set. The AT-1108 Side Align is a horizontal alignment tool set for moving motors and pumps during shaft alignment.

Hydraulic pullers are chosen by the force needed and the reach and spread of the jaws; the self-contained PHS and PHA models have their own pump, and the larger PH-100T is used for heavy couplings and large bearings. The safety cage keeps the jaws from slipping off the part under load, which reduces the risk of injury when pulling seized components.
