Allen-Bradley 5069-OF4 Compact 5000 Analog Output Module
Description
Four 16-bit voltage or current outputs for Compact 5000 racks
The Allen-Bradley 5069-OF4 is a four-channel analog output module that can be set to voltage (plus or minus 10 V, 0 to 10 V, 0 to 5 V) or current (0 to 20 mA, 4 to 20 mA) for each channel. Resolution is 16 bits, and data is passed as IEEE 32-bit floating point.
It is used for control valve positioners, drive speed references and other analog actuators in CompactLogix 5380 systems. The sister module 5069-OF8 provides eight channels in the same width.

Diagnostics and wiring
Open-circuit detection applies to current outputs and short-circuit detection to voltage outputs. Shielded cable is required on output ports (conductor category 2), . User calibration is optional on top of the factory calibration. The module reports status through one green/red module indicator and four yellow/red channel indicators, and it passes module power on to the next module in the row, with a pass-through limit of 9.55 A at 18 to 32 V DC.
Selection notes
Four channels suit a valve or drive group in a machine, while eight channels in the 5069-OF8 reduce cost per point. If isolated channels with HART are required, the data lists the 5069-OF4IH instead, which is a separate catalog number. Confirm series, suffix and terminal block before ordering. Typical Gulf uses are valve positioners on gas and water skids, variable-speed drive references, and analog indicators where a CompactLogix 5380 controller is already specified.
Each channel is 16-bit and the module scan time for all four channels is 1.0 ms, with a step response of 18 us in voltage mode and 1 ms in current mode. Capacitive load is limited to 1 uF in voltage mode and inductive load to 1 mH in current mode, so check long cable runs.
Planning the analog output channels
Good analog design starts with a list of every actuator that needs a continuous signal and the type of signal it accepts. Valve positioners usually expect current signals, while many drive speed references and indicators accept either voltage or current. Because the 5069-OF4 lets each channel be configured independently, one module can serve a mixed group, but it is still worth grouping signals logically so that a channel fault or module replacement affects only one part of the process. Since the module has no channel-to-channel isolation, devices with separate supplies or earth references should be reviewed before they are wired to the same module, and the isolated 5069-OF4IH considered where the application calls for it.
- Record the signal type and range each receiving device expects.
- Check capacitive and inductive load limits against cable length and the connected device.
- Decide where open-circuit and short-circuit diagnostics should raise an alarm in the control system.
- Confirm the SA power budget for the rack, including this module’s SA current.
Wiring, configuration and commissioning
Use shielded cable for every output, as the technical data requires, and terminate the shield consistently according to the plant earthing practice. Keep analog cables away from drive output and power cables. In the controller project, set each channel’s range and the scaling to engineering units, and review with the process engineer what each actuator should do if a signal is lost, so the plant response is known in advance. During commissioning, drive each channel to several points across its range and measure the actual signal at the field device, not only at the terminal block, to confirm wiring and scaling. Factory calibration is normally adequate; user calibration can be added where the site quality system asks for it.
Checking the control loop
After wiring is verified, test the complete loop with the valve or drive responding: command the output, watch the actuator move, and compare its position or speed feedback with the command. Small discrepancies at this stage are much easier to correct than after start-up.
Gulf installation conditions
Compact 5000 racks in Oman and the GCC are often installed in skid panels and outdoor enclosures exposed to strong sun, dust and humid coastal air. The operating temperature and non-condensing humidity limits apply inside the panel, so enclosure cooling must be designed for summer conditions. Where corrosive or humid atmospheres are expected, the conformal coated 5069-OF4K listed in the technical data is worth considering. Keep enclosures closed, clean dust from the DIN rail area during shutdowns, and check terminal tightness periodically, since loose analog connections can cause drifting signals that are hard to trace.
RFQ checklist

About brand
Catalog numbers beginning 1756, 1734, 1746 or 5069 are read at a glance by anyone who maintains Allen-Bradley control panels. The brand, the control hardware name of Rockwell Automation, dates back to 1903 in Milwaukee, USA. Seven Star LLC sources and supplies Allen-Bradley PLC and I/O modules, communication adapters and PowerFlex drives for plants in Oman, matching catalog number, series letter and firmware against the manufacturer's documentation.
Allen-Bradley product families listed here
Current controller platforms on this page are ControlLogix, with the 1756-L85E ControlLogix 5580 controller and the 1756-PA72 chassis power supply, and CompactLogix 5380, with the 5069-L320ER and 5069-L340ERM. Distributed I/O is represented by POINT I/O: the 1734-AENTR dual-port EtherNet/IP adapter and the 1734-IB8 digital input module. Allen-Bradley drives listed include the PowerFlex 525 and PowerFlex 755. For installed systems there are SLC 500 parts: the 1746-A10 chassis, 1746-NI16I analog input module, 1747-ASB remote I/O adapter, 1747-KE interface and 1747-M13 memory module.
Where Allen-Bradley hardware is used
ControlLogix and CompactLogix controllers run packaged equipment and plant utilities: compressor and pump skids, water and wastewater plants, power distribution, material handling and packaging lines. PowerFlex drives control pumps, fans and conveyors. Many SLC 500 racks are still in service.
Ordering Allen-Bradley modules and drives: what we need
Send the full catalog number, the series letter and, for controllers and communication modules, the firmware revision printed on the side label. Compatibility with an existing project depends on these. For PowerFlex drives, give the complete catalog string, which encodes voltage, current rating, enclosure and options, plus the motor nameplate data. For SLC 500 parts, tell us the rack size and processor so that we can check slot and power supply loading in the manufacturer's manuals. A label photo avoids most mistakes.
