A 50 mm bore tapered roller bearing for combined radial and axial loads

The SKF 32210 is a single row tapered roller bearing from the 322 series, with a 50 mm bore, 90 mm outside diameter and 24.75 mm total width. The inner ring with its rollers and cage can be mounted separately from the outer ring, and the converging contact angle lets one bearing take combined radial and axial load, with the axial load in one direction.

It is used in pairs, usually adjusted against each other, in gearboxes, wheel and axle assemblies, pump drives, conveyors and machine tool spindles. SKF lists it in the Explorer class with a dynamic load rating of 101 kN and a static rating of 100 kN, and its brochure says Explorer tapered roller bearings give 15 percent higher dynamic ratings and 10 percent higher reference speeds than the SKF standard and TQ-line classes.

Designation, adjustment and the current SKF naming

In 32210 the leading 3 marks the tapered roller bearing type and the last two digits give the 50 mm bore (10 multiplied by five); the SKF product page lists the dimension series as 3DC. SKF product pages also show that some older designations with the J2/Q suffix, such as 30212 J2/Q and 32312 J2/Q, have been replaced by the plain number, so check any legacy suffix on an old part against current SKF data before ordering.

Single row bearings must be adjusted against another bearing in the opposite direction, and the setting of end play or preload determines stiffness and life. The product table gives the abutment limits needed for that arrangement: shaft abutment da of at most 58 mm and db of at least 59 mm, and housing abutment Da between 78 and 82 mm, with Db at least 85 mm.

Selection and ordering notes

The catalogue values for this size include a calculation factor e of 0.43 and a factor Y of 1.4, with a mass of 0.6 kg. The limiting speed is 7 500 r/min and the reference speed 6 000 r/min. Required space on the housing side is at least 3 mm on the large face and 5.5 mm on the small face, according to Ca and Cb in the table, which matters for covers and retaining rings.
