Ringfeder RfN 4051 Light Shrink Disc, 125-500 mm

Description

Light shrink disc for thin-walled hubs and medium torque

The RfN 4051 is RINGFEDER’s light series of shrink discs. It is a three-part disc, made to transfer low to moderate torque where radial space is limited: the pressure rings are narrow, so the unit needs very little room along the shaft, and RINGFEDER describes it as ideal for thin-walled hubs and shafts. A shrink disc replaces a keyed or splined joint with a friction fit. Tightening the screws draws the thrust rings together, which compresses a tapered slit inner ring onto the shaft and presses the outer ring onto the hub, while the disc itself stays out of the load path.

Torque is set by the screw tightening torque, which lets the same size serve different applications. The slit inner ring keeps forces and pressures on hub and shaft low, small tolerance errors are compensated, and the connection is suitable for static, dynamic and impact loads. With no keyway, hubs can be placed at any point or angle on the shaft.

For the 125 x 185 size the tech paper lists three shaft diameters (95, 100 and 105 mm) with torques from 10,550 to 13,800 Nm at different tightening torques, which is how one disc covers neighbouring shaft sizes.

Function values and what to check

The tech paper calculates the function values with the screws lubricated with MoS2 (total friction 0.1), the tapered cones lubricated with MoS2 (0.05), lightly oiled contact surfaces (friction 0.12) and a modulus of elasticity of 210,000 N/mm2 for hub and shaft. The shaft must be finished to Ra 3.2 um, and the table of maximum clearance S between shaft and bore applies. Hollow shafts and extra loads such as tension, thrust or bending have to be discussed with the RINGFEDER engineering team.

At a shaft of 100 mm the permitted clearance is 0.069 mm; above 180 mm shaft diameter it is 0.090 mm and at 400 to 500 mm it is 0.123 mm. Order by series, d and D, for example RfN 4051 420 630. Confirm before ordering: shaft diameter within the dw range of the chosen size, hub outside diameter and yield strength, and the torque and shock factor.

The tech paper lists each size for several shaft diameters, so state the exact shaft diameter, hub bore and required torque, including any shock factor, when requesting a quotation for this light series.

About brand

Ringfeder is a German manufacturer of shaft-hub connections and couplings for mechanical power transmission, headquartered in Groß-Umstadt and part of the Swedish VBG Group. Locking assemblies, shrink discs and locking elements are its core product groups.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list Ringfeder RfN series from the official tech papers and quote them for machine builders and maintenance teams in Oman and the GCC.

Ringfeder product series

Locking assemblies fit between shaft and hub bore: RfN 7012 for shafts from 19 to 1000 mm, the self-centring RfN 7013.0 and RfN 7003, the heavy torque RfN 7014, RfN 7015.0, the three-piece RfN 7005 and RfN 7515, RfN 7006 with collar, the miniature RfN 7061 and the compact RfN 7110. Shrink discs clamp a hollow hub onto a shaft from the outside: light RfN 4051, standard RfN 4061 and RfN 4071, mini RfN 4073, route-controlled RfN 4161 and heavy-duty RfN 4091 and RfN 4181. RfN 8006 locking elements cover shafts from 6 to 1000 mm.

All of these are keyless friction connections, so there is no keyway to weaken the shaft and no backlash. Each tech paper lists sizes, transmissible torque and axial force, screw tightening torques and tolerances.

Where Ringfeder connections are used

Gear wheels, sprockets, pulleys, couplings and brake discs on shafts; hollow-shaft gear units on conveyors, mills and crushers; and drives in mining, cement, wind energy and general machine building.

Ordering Ringfeder products: what we need

Give the RfN series and size, or the shaft diameter, hub bore and hub outside diameter, the torque and any axial or bending loads, and the material or surface finish required.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is the RfN 4051 different from other shrink discs?
It is the light series: narrow rings, three-part, for medium transmission values in tight spaces.
How is torque set?
By the screw tightening torque; the tech paper lists values per shaft diameter.
Does it need a key?
No. It clamps by friction, so hubs can be positioned at any point or angle.
What size range does it cover?
Inner diameter 125 to 500 mm, 10,550 to 1,066,000 Nm.
What shaft finish is needed?
Ra 3.2 um or better, within the maximum clearance given in the tech paper.
