Hager HHS063DC h3+ P160 3P 63 A 25 kA Thermal-Magnetic MCCB

Description

Compact 63 A adjustable thermal-magnetic breaker up to 690 V

The Hager HHS063DC is an h3+ P160 moulded case circuit breaker with three poles and a rated current of 63 A. Its thermal-magnetic trip unit is adjustable (TM A/A per the datasheet): the thermal element can be set by a knob to 0.63, 0.8 or 1 times the rated current, and the instantaneous threshold can be set to 6, 8, 10 or 12 times rated current. This allows one device to be tuned to a motor feeder, a cable or a heater group without changing the hardware.

The breaker is rated for operational voltages from 220 to 690 V and is fixed, front-connected and suitable for distribution boards. It carries an ultimate breaking capacity of 25 kA at 400 V AC and 35 kA at 240 V AC, and 6 kA at 660 and 690 V.

Reading the ordering description

The Hager description uses abbreviations that are worth decoding before an order. P160 is the frame size, TM ADJ means an adjustable thermal-magnetic trip unit, 3P3D means three poles with three protected poles (no neutral), 63A is the rated current and 25kA the breaking capacity at 400 V. The trailing CTC is part of Hager’s printed description and is not explained on the datasheet, so confirm its meaning with the Hager catalogue if accessories or terminal kits are needed.

Application and selection

Typical uses are motor-starter feeders, sub-distribution outgoers and machine supplies. Set the thermal dial from the motor or load current and verify that the instantaneous setting sits above starting current. The breaker takes copper cable of 6 to 95 mm2 and measures only 130 x 90 mm on the front, which helps where board space is limited. Check the fault level at the board against the 25 kA rating at 400 V.

How the Hager HHS063DC thermal-magnetic MCCB works

A moulded case circuit breaker protects a circuit against overload and short circuit. The thermal element is a bimetal strip that heats and bends when the current is above the set value for some time, so it trips on a slow overload, with a delay that grows shorter as the current rises. The magnetic element is a coil that trips the breaker at once when the current exceeds a high threshold, which is a short circuit. In the HHS063DC, both settings can be adjusted with knobs: the thermal setting from 0.63 to 1 times the rated current of 63 A, and the instantaneous setting from 6 to 12 times that current.

Where the HHS063DC is used

  • Distribution boards in industrial and commercial buildings.
  • Motor feeders and machine supply circuits.
  • Cable and heater group protection.
  • Process plant panels with voltages up to 690 V.
  • Incoming or outgoing feeders in sub-distribution boards.

Selection checklist for the HHS063DC

  • Rated current of 63 A, and the thermal setting that matches the load or cable.
  • Three poles without neutral, and the system earthing.
  • Breaking capacity: 25 kA at 400 V AC and 35 kA at 240 V AC, compared with the prospective short-circuit current.
  • Instantaneous setting from 6 to 12 times rated current, set high enough to avoid nuisance trips on motor starting.
  • Rated operational voltage of 220 to 690 V and the insulation voltage of 800 V.
  • Cable size: 6 to 70 mm2 flexible and 6 to 95 mm2 rigid copper.
  • Dimensions of 130 x 90 x 97 mm and the space in the board.
  • Accessories that the project needs, such as door interlock, terminal covers or auxiliary contacts.
  • Ordering description, in particular the abbreviations used by the manufacturer.

Installation, commissioning and maintenance notes

Fit the breaker in the board with the front connection, and tighten the terminals to 6 Nm. Use copper conductors of the right size, and make sure the lugs fit. Set the thermal and instantaneous knobs according to the load and the protection study, and lock the settings if the board is accessible. Operate the breaker from time to time to keep the mechanism free, and check the terminals for heating with a thermal camera during maintenance. After a fault trip, find the cause before closing the breaker again.

Requesting a quotation for the Hager HHS063DC

Send the rated current, the breaking capacity, the voltage and the accessories needed. Seven Star LLC serves industrial customers in Oman and the GCC and replies with a quotation based on the information provided.

Breaking capacity Icu and Ics

Icu is the ultimate breaking capacity, and Ics is the service breaking capacity. In this breaker both are 25 kA at 400 V. The breaker must have a rating above the prospective short-circuit current at its location.

Motor starting and the instantaneous setting

A motor draws a high starting current for a short time. Set the instantaneous threshold above that peak so that the breaker does not trip while the motor starts.

Heat in the board

The breaker dissipates about 10.5 W at rated current. Add the heat of all devices when you plan the ventilation of the board.
