Banner SC10-2 Configurable Safety Controller, 10 Inputs

Description

The Banner SC10-2 is a compact configurable safety controller that replaces two or more safety relays in a small machine. Ten input terminals handle emergency stops, gate switches, light curtains, safety mats and two-hand controls, and two 3-channel safety relay outputs switch the machine contactors.

The SC10-2roe model adds industrial Ethernet for status and diagnostics, and the logic is configured by drag and drop on a PC. Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Muscat, quotes the exact Banner model code against the product manual.

What it replaces and how it is configured

Banner describes the SC10 as a hybrid safety controller plus two safety relays, a cost-effective solution for machines that would otherwise need two relays. Up to 70 safe devices can be handled with in-series diagnostics, and Automatic Terminal Optimization with external terminal blocks lets three devices share one I/O signal, so the 10 terminals can serve up to 14 inputs. The free Banner software simulates the configuration before it is downloaded to the controller.

Network integration

Over Ethernet the controller exposes 256 virtual non-safe status outputs and accepts 80 virtual non-safe inputs, such as reset, ON/OFF, cancel OFF-delay and mute enable. EtherNet/IP, Modbus TCP and PROFINET are listed in the manual, which lets a PLC read safety status and fault messages without hard-wiring each signal. An optional SC-XM3 drive allows quick controller replacement without a PC.

Selection and what to confirm

If you need more inputs or independent solid-state outputs, look at the larger Banner XS/SC26-2 family or at the existing Pilz PNOZmulti page and the PLC and I/O category. Please confirm before ordering: the number and type of safety devices, contact load and voltage, Ethernet protocol, mounting enclosure rating and whether an SC-XM3 drive is wanted.

How the Banner SC10-2 works

The controller reads the safety devices on its input terminals. A logic program, made on a PC, decides when the outputs may stay on. When an emergency stop or a gate switch opens, the controller drops the two safety relay outputs, and the machine contactors fall away. The relays are forced-guided, so a welded contact can be detected.

Where the SC10-2 is used

  • Small machines with two safety relays
  • Emergency stop circuits
  • Gate and door interlocks
  • Light curtain and safety mat circuits
  • Two-hand control stations

Selection checklist for the SC10-2

  • Number of safety devices
  • Ten input terminals, four of them convertible
  • Two 3-channel relay outputs
  • Industrial Ethernet need
  • Supply of 24 V DC
  • Enclosure with IP54 or better
  • Configuration software on a PC
  • Optional SC-XM3 drive

Installation, commissioning and maintenance notes for the SC10-2

Mount the controller on a DIN rail in an enclosure rated NEMA 3 or IP54 or better. Wire the devices to the push-in terminals with wire from 24 to 16 AWG. Draw the logic in the software and load it. Test every safety function before the machine runs. Keep a record of the configuration.

Requesting a quotation for the Banner SC10-2

About brand

Banner Engineering, founded in 1966 in Minneapolis, USA, makes industrial sensors, indicator lights and machine safety products that show up on packaging lines and conveyors everywhere. Seven Star LLC lists Banner devices including the Q4X rugged stainless steel laser distance sensor and the K50 Pro Beacon IO-Link multicolor RGB indicator, and supplies Banner sensors and indicators to plants and machine builders in Oman.

Banner Q4X and K50 Pro

Banner offers the Q4X in four range versions, all starting at 25 mm: Q4X100 to 100 mm, Q4X300 to 300 mm, Q4X500 to 500 mm and Q4X600 to 600 mm. The series is available with discrete, analog and IO-Link outputs and has a display on the sensor. The K50 Pro Beacon is a status indicator whose color and behavior are set from the controller over IO-Link.

Ordering Banner products: what we need

Send the complete Banner model number from the device label, because range, output type and connector are all coded into it. For the Q4X, state the measuring distance, the output your PLC input needs and the connector or cable style. For indicators, give the housing size, control method and voltage. Mating cordsets and brackets can be included for GCC orders.
