Hager SPB440D 4P Type 2 Surge Protection Device 275 V 40 kA
Description
Type 2 surge protection for three-phase four-wire distribution boards
The Hager SPB440D is a four-pole Type 2 surge protection device (SPD) for low-voltage distribution boards. It is designed for TN-S and TT networks and is built in a 3P+N configuration, with the neutral position on the left. Type 2 devices are installed in the main or sub-distribution board to divert switching and induced lightning surges before they reach sensitive equipment downstream.
The datasheet gives a nominal discharge current of 20 kA and a maximum discharge current of 40 kA (8/20 microsecond wave), a continuous operating voltage Uc of 275 V and a voltage protection level of 1.35 kV line to neutral and 1.6 kV line to earth. The device conforms to IEC/EN 61643-11.

Network suitability and backup protection
The datasheet marks the device as suitable for TN-S and TT systems only. For TN-C, TN-C-S, IT or DC supplies a different product is required. The SPD needs an upstream overcurrent device: Hager lists a maximum of 125 A for a parallel connection and 80 A for a series connection, both gG fuse characteristics, which should be checked against the board design and local wiring rules.
Installation notes
Keep the connection leads to the busbar and earth as short as possible, because lead inductance adds to the voltage seen by the load. The indicator lamp shows whether the protection modules are still active; the SPD has no remote signalling contact, so it needs periodic visual checks. Surge protection coordination with Type 1 devices or with equipment-level protection should follow the manufacturer’s guidance. For general guidance, compare with the Schneider Electric iQuick PRD40r surge protective device listing.

About brand
Hager Group is a German family-owned maker of electrical installation systems, founded in January 1955 in Ensheim, Saarland, by Peter Hager with his sons Oswald and Hermann. It first made meter and distribution boards and opened its first French plant in Obernai, Alsace, in 1959. The group is headquartered in Blieskastel, Germany, and still controlled by the Hager family.
Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list Hager protective devices for panel builders and contractors in Oman and the GCC.
