ABB ACS150-03E-08A8-4 ACS150 4 kW Micro Drive
Description
ABB ACS150-03E-08A8-4: 4 kW micro drive in a 70 mm housing
The ABB ACS150-03E-08A8-4 is a 4 kW micro drive from the ACS150 family, rated 8.8 A on 380 to 480 V three-phase supplies. It is a frame R1 drive in IP20 form, only 70 mm wide, so it suits crowded control panels in small machines, fans and pumps.
ABB built the ACS150 with an integrated control panel and potentiometer for quick local speed setting, and the E in 03E means the EMC filter is connected.

Ratings and derating
The type delivers 8.8 A continuously and 13.2 A for one minute in ten, with a short-term maximum of 15.4 A. Input current is 13.6 A without a choke and 11.3 A with a choke or 5% reactor, and the 4 kW rating corresponds to 5 hp in NEMA terms.
For motors close to the limit, check the ambient and switching-frequency derating described in the user manual, and make sure the supply frequency is 50 or 60 Hz.
The IP20 body is 169 mm high without fastenings (239 mm with the clamping plate), 70 mm wide and 142 mm deep, and weighs 1.2 kg on 380 to 480 V types. Allow 75 mm of space above and below. Main-circuit loss is 94 W with 24 m3/h of air flow. Protect the input with 20 A gG or 25 A UL class T/CC fuses and connect 2.5 mm2 (AWG 12) copper conductors.
Reading the ACS150-03E-08A8-4 order code
In ACS150-03E-08A8-4, ACS150 is the series, 03 the 3-phase input, E the connected EMC filter, 08A8 the nominal current and 4 the 380 to 480 V range. The ACS150 offers few options: a NEMA 1 kit, panel accessories and a fieldbus gateway in ABB’s accessory list; confirm what the application needs.
Small drives are often ordered as spares, so check the label for the full code and compare it character by character with the ACS150-03E-08A8-4 shown here. Tell us the motor power and supply voltage, and mention any panel accessories that were fitted so that the replacement matches the original arrangement.
Is a micro drive the right fit?
The ACS150 is aimed at simple speed control on small machines: conveyors, mixers, packaging equipment, small pumps and ventilation units where an operator sets speed locally and the drive mainly needs to start, stop and run reliably. Before choosing it, compare the motor’s full-load current with the 8.8 A continuous rating rather than matching on kilowatts alone, and look at how the machine starts. A load that briefly needs more than the continuous current at start-up is covered by the overload and maximum current figures in the table, but a machine that runs overloaded for long periods needs a larger rating.
Also decide how the drive will be controlled. If local speed setting on the integrated panel and potentiometer is enough, the ACS150 keeps things simple. If the drive must be part of a networked control system, check the fieldbus gateway from ABB’s accessory list, or compare with the related ACS355 linked below.
Panel installation and first start-up
- Mount the drive vertically and keep the stated clearance above and below so cooling air is not restricted when several narrow drives sit side by side.
- Install the fuses or the manual motor protector listed above on the input, and use copper conductors of the stated size.
- Run motor cables separately from control wiring and follow the manual’s grounding and cable-screen instructions, particularly with the EMC filter connected.
- Enter the motor nameplate data, set minimum and maximum speed and suitable ramp times for the machine.
- Check direction of rotation, then run the machine through its normal duty while observing motor current on the panel.
Operating in hot and dusty plants
Small panels in Omani workshops, factories and plant rooms can heat up quickly, and a compact enclosure packed with several drives leaves little room for heat to escape. Include the main-circuit heat loss of each drive in the panel heat calculation, and remember that the user manual describes derating at higher ambient temperatures. Mount panels out of direct sunlight where possible, keep the enclosure closed against dust in sandy areas, and protect the drive from condensation in humid coastal locations during periods when the panel is switched off.
Upkeep and what to send with your enquiry
Keep the drive’s cooling path free of dust, check terminal tightness at planned shutdowns, and write down the parameter values once the machine is commissioned so a spare can be set up quickly. Review any fault messages on the control panel as part of regular inspection rounds.
For the quotation, state the type code ACS150-03E-08A8-4, the quantity, the motor power and current, the supply voltage, whether the NEMA 1 kit or other accessories from the list are needed, and whether the unit replaces an existing drive.

About brand
ABB, formed in 1988 and headquartered in Zurich, covers an unusually long stretch of a plant's equipment list, from the flowmeter and analyzer in the field to the drive, breaker and protection relay in the electrical room.
Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier serving Oman and the GCC. Our ABB listing concentrates on measurement and analytics: ABB flowmeters, liquid analysis sensors and systems, level and pressure instruments. It also includes valve actuators, low voltage circuit breakers, ABB drives, soft starters and protection relays.
ABB product families on this page
Flow measurement includes ABB electromagnetic, Coriolis, vortex and swirl meters, sold under names such as ProcessMaster, AquaMaster, CoriolisMaster and SwirlMaster. Liquid analysis covers pH, conductivity and dissolved oxygen sensors with their transmitters. SensyTemp TSP sensors handle temperature. On the electrical side the listing has ACS355 machinery drives, the ACS550 general purpose drive, the ACQ580 for water and wastewater and the ACS880-01 industrial drive, with fieldbus adapters such as the FPBA-01 for PROFIBUS DP. Protection and switching products include SACE Tmax XT molded case breakers, SACE Emax 2 air circuit breakers, PSR soft starters and the REM615 and RET615 relays.
Where ABB instruments and drives are used
Water and wastewater plants use the electromagnetic flowmeters, analyzers and ACQ580 drives together. Oil and gas, power and chemical plants specify the Coriolis and vortex meters, pressure and level transmitters and the 615 series relays for motor and transformer feeders. The drives run pumps, fans, conveyors and compressors in almost every industry.
Ordering ABB parts: what we need
For drives send the full type code from the rating label, for example ACS355-03E-05A6-4, plus the serial number if it is a replacement. For instruments send the complete order code, measuring span, process connection, wetted materials, output or protocol and the hazardous area approval. For breakers give frame size, rated current, breaking capacity, number of poles, trip unit and fixed or withdrawable version.
