Bray/Rite Double Door Wafer Check Valve, NPS 2 to 12, Class 150

Description

A short, light non-slam check valve for pump discharge lines

The Bray/Rite double door check valve is a wafer-style check valve that protects pumps and pipelines against flow reversal. Two lightweight spring-loaded discs open with the flow, and independent springs close them quickly as the flow stops, which Bray says reduces the water hammer potential compared with a swing check. A contoured body gives a short, straight flow path with minimal turbulence and head loss.

The valve is made in NPS 2 to 12 (DN 50 to 300) in ASME Class 150 flange connection. Bray states it is designed according to API 594 and tested according to API 598, that it is CE marked in accordance with PED 2014/68/EU, and that all valves are registered under a Canadian Registration Number (CRN) in Canada.

Face-to-face, flange diameter and head loss

The short laying length saves cost and space and makes installation easier than a full-body swing check. Bray prints face-to-face and flange diameter for each size, and flow and head loss charts for liquids and a pressure-drop formula for gas service, based on Cv.

Size Dimension (API 594)
DN 50 (2 in) 54 mm face to face, 104 mm diameter
DN 80 (3 in) 67 mm face to face, 135 mm diameter
DN 100 (4 in) 67 mm face to face, 162 mm diameter
DN 150 (6 in) 95 mm face to face, 218 mm diameter
DN 200 (8 in) 127 mm face to face, 273 mm diameter
DN 250 (10 in) 140 mm face to face, 328 mm diameter
DN 300 (12 in) 181 mm face to face, 378 mm diameter

Application notes and what to confirm

A double door check valve is typically installed between flanges on the discharge of a pump, ahead of a header or on a cooling-water line. Bray publishes flow and head-loss charts and a CheckSize sizing tool, and lists check valve accessories such as external springs and weights. Please confirm the line size, medium, temperature, flow direction and orientation, flange standard (the valve fits between ASME Class 150 flanges), body and seat material and whether NSF-G marking is required.

Part number code Body and seat Marking
DXX15DEZNSF Ductile iron, EPDM NSF-G, CE
DXX15DBZ Ductile iron, Buna CE
DXX15XEZ Stainless steel CF8M, EPDM CE

About brand

Bray International is the Houston-based maker of butterfly valves, knife gate and slurry valves, actuators and valve controls. It was incorporated in Houston on 23 April 1986, founded by Craig C. Brown and Frank J. Raymond, and assembled its first butterfly valves in 1987. Among them were the Series 20/21, 30/31 and 35/36 resilient-seated valves that are still in its range.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list Bray valves, actuators, positioners and switch boxes, and supply complete automated valve packages and spare parts to water, oil and gas and process plants in Oman and the GCC.

Bray products we list

Family Models Typical use
Resilient-seated butterfly valves Series 20/21, 22/23 PTFE-lined, 30/31, 32/33, 35/36, 3A/3AH Water, seawater, HVAC and general utility isolation; PTFE-lined for corrosive chemicals
High-performance and triple-offset butterfly valves McCannalok 40/41, Tri Lok Higher pressure and temperature, steam, hydrocarbons and tight shut-off
Knife gate and slurry valves 740, 755, 941, 762, 765, 767, 768 Slurries, sludge, pulp, mining tailings and wastewater solids
Actuators Series 92/93 rack and pinion, Series 98 scotch yoke, Series 70 electric Automating quarter-turn valves with air or electric power
Positioners and switch boxes 6A, 6P, 5A, 5C Ex d, Series 54 sensors Modulating control and open/closed position feedback to the control system

The butterfly valve type follows the duty. Resilient-seated valves seal on a rubber liner, which makes them economical and bubble-tight for water and utilities. High-performance valves use an offset disc and a PTFE or metal seat for higher pressures and temperatures. Triple-offset valves add a third geometric offset so the disc meets the seat without rubbing, which allows a metal-to-metal, zero-leakage seal in steam and hydrocarbon service.

Where Bray valves are used

In Oman and the GCC, Bray valves and actuators are used in water transmission and distribution, desalination and wastewater plants, district cooling and HVAC, petrochemical and chemical plants, power stations and mining and slurry lines.

Ordering Bray valves: what we need

Send the series, size (NPS or DN), end connection (wafer, lug or flanged), body, disc and seat materials, and the medium, pressure and temperature. For actuated valves, add the actuator type (double-acting or spring return), air or electric supply, and any positioner or switch box needed.
