GWD9067 is a Gewiss MSX 160c moulded case circuit breaker with three poles, a rated current of 160 A, an electromechanical thermal-magnetic release (adjustable thermal, fixed magnetic at 1600 A) and a rated operating voltage of 525 V ac / 250 V dc. It is built to IEC/EN 60947-2, is fixed-mounted with front terminals, and measures 75 x 130 x 68 mm.

A compact 160 A MCCB for main and sub-distribution

The MSX family covers moulded case circuit breakers used for protecting feeders, motor starters and sub-boards. The “c” version in the MSX 160 frame is the compact, fixed-magnetic variant: the thermal element is adjustable from 0.63 to 1 times In, so the thermal trip can be set between about 101 A and 160 A (derived from 0.63 x 160 A), while the magnetic trip is fixed at 1600 A (10 x In).

At 400/415 V ac the service breaking capacity Icu is 25 kA and the rated breaking capacity Ics is 13 kA. Because Ics is about half of Icu, this breaker suits feeders where prospective short-circuit current is moderate; check your calculated fault level at the board, not the transformer rating alone.

The 160c has fixed magnetic protection. If you need adjustable magnetic trip, a motor operator or interlocks, look at the other MSX variants: for example GWD9121 on this site is an MSX 125 with adjustable thermal and magnetic and a motor-operator option, but with a smaller current rating.

Select the breaker by In, Icu/Ics at your system voltage and the thermal setting you will actually use. The Gewiss list also carries 3P+N versions (for example GWD9036 and GWD9097) if a protected neutral is required.

Installation and operation notes

Fit with upline or downline supply, in any mounting position. Terminals are front type, so cable lugs or busbars must suit the terminal width; check the dimensional drawing in the datasheet.

Operating temperature is -5 to +65 C. In hot switchrooms, ambient temperature can influence thermal trip behaviour; the datasheet does not publish a derating table, so ask Gewiss data or us for the rating you need.

Derived selection note: with the thermal element set at 1 x In the trip threshold is 160 A and at 0.63 x In it is about 101 A, so one breaker can cover feeder ratings of roughly 100 to 160 A without changing the fixed 1600 A magnetic point; the power loss of 46.2 W at rated current should be added to the heat budget of the enclosure.

The 525 V ac rating covers 400/415 V systems with margin; for 690 V circuits the 160c is not suitable (no 690 V breaking capacity is printed), so choose a frame rated for that voltage.

Select the breaker by comparing the load current, the calculated short-circuit level at the board and the cable rating. With a thermal setting range of about 101 to 160 A and a fixed magnetic trip at 1600 A, GWD9067 suits feeders where the upstream device can discriminate. Tighten the front terminals to the manufacturer torque and check the setting after installation, because a wrongly set thermal element is a common cause of nuisance trips.
