Twin-impeller centrifugal pumps for high pressure from clean water: up to 112 m head

The Pedrollo 2CP series is a close-coupled centrifugal pump with two impellers in series, which lifts the head well above that of a single-impeller pump of the same size. Pedrollo lists flow up to 450 l/min (27 m3/h) and head up to 112 m on the 50 Hz datasheet, with motors from 1.1 to 11 kW, and recommends the pumps for clean water and liquids that are chemically non-aggressive towards the pump materials. Typical uses named in the datasheet are water distribution together with autoclave (pressure) tanks, increasing network pressure and fire-fighting units, in domestic, civil and industrial settings.

The series spans six frames: 2CP 25/14, 25/16, 32/200, 32/210, 40/180 and 40/200, each with two or three trims lettered A, B or C. Single-phase 2CPm versions are offered on the 25/14 and 25/16 frames; the larger frames are three-phase.

The head values are the first point of the published table at the lowest listed flow and fall as the flow rises. Absorbed current is given per model, for example 10.5 A for the single-phase 2CPm 25/14A on 230 V and 20.0 A for the 2CP 40/200A at the lower of the two three-phase voltages. Check the exact motor current against the supply and starter.

Selection and installation notes

A twin-impeller pump suits pressure boosting where a conventional single-impeller pump would need an oversized motor. It still needs clean liquid: the brass impellers and ceramic/graphite seal are not intended for abrasive or chemically aggressive media. Keep the suction lift within 7 m and the suction line air-tight, and size any pressure tank and pressure switch for the start frequency of the motor. For fire-fighting service, confirm with the project specification whether a certified fire pump or a pressure-boosting set is required, since the datasheet describes the 2CP only as suitable for fire-fighting units.

How the Pedrollo 2CP works

The motor turns two impellers in series on one shaft. The first impeller raises the pressure of the water. The second impeller raises it again. The pump then delivers a higher head than a single-impeller pump of the same size.

Fix the pump on a firm, level base. Keep the suction line short and air-tight. Prime the pump before the first start. Check the motor rotation on three-phase units. Inspect the mechanical seal for leaks at regular visits.
