Timken SNT Split Plummer Block Housed Spherical Roller Bearings

Description

Split plummer blocks that put a Timken spherical roller bearing inside a cast housing

The Timken SNT split plummer block is a metric, ISO 113 style housing with a Timken spherical roller bearing already matched to it. The cap and base are a serialized, dowel-pin aligned pair, with pry-tool slots so the cap can be lifted for inspection or bearing replacement without removing the shaft. Because the housing is split, it is the usual choice for fans, conveyor pulleys, gearbox output shafts and pump drives where a solid block cannot be slid over the shaft end.

Timken builds the range in three families: two-bolt SNT housings for shafts of 20 to 160 mm (200-300 and 500-600 series, cast iron), four-bolt FSNT housings for 35 to 160 mm, and large SNTD plummer blocks for 150 to 480 mm shafts in the 3000 and 3100 series, which are ductile iron as standard. A light 3000 series, SNTN, is also listed. The housings take tapered-bore bearings on an adapter sleeve or cylindrical-bore bearings on a stepped shaft.

Choosing the seal and the fixed or float position

The catalogue compares four seals. TSNG double-lip seals (NBR, minus 40 to 100 degrees Celsius, up to 4 m/s on 500-600 series, 5 m/s on 200-300) are the common choice for grease-lubricated blocks in moderately contaminated air and accept 1 degree of misalignment on shafts up to 100 mm. VR V-ring seals run to 7 m/s and 1.5 degrees. Labyrinth LO seals run at the bearing speed, to 120 degrees Celsius, but accept only 0.3 degrees and resist water less well. Taconite TA seals combine labyrinth and V-ring for heavy contamination such as mining, at 7 m/s and 0.3 degrees.

One housing can serve several bearings in the same series: for example SNT 512-610 takes 22212K, 22310K or 21310K, each with its own sleeve and locating ring. Shaft length guidelines and housing strength data are in the catalogue.

What to confirm before ordering

Give the housing size (for example SNT 512-610 or FSNT 515-612), cast or ductile iron, the bearing number and bore type, sleeve, seal type for both sides, end cover or open end, fixed or float position and coating. Grease and single-point lubricator choices are listed in the Timken mounted-bearing grease table. Related stock on this site is listed under Electric Motors, Pumps and Turbines.

About brand

Timken is a manufacturer of bearings and power transmission products, founded in 1899 and headquartered in North Canton, Ohio, USA. The company began with the tapered roller bearing, and its range now also covers ball, cylindrical and spherical roller bearings, housed units, lubricants and lubrication devices.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list Timken bearings, mounted units and lubrication products for maintenance departments and workshops in Oman and the GCC.

Timken product series

Roller bearings include metric tapered roller bearings such as the 32206, EJ and EM spherical roller bearings in the 222 and 223 series such as the 22216EJW33, single-row cylindrical roller bearings (NU, N, NJ, NUP), double-row and four-row cylindrical roller bearings for rolling mills, and TSR thrust spherical roller bearings. Ball bearings include 7200 and 7300 single-row and 3200 and 3300 double-row angular contact bearings and corrosion-resistant stainless deep groove bearings.

Mounted products cover Fafnir ball bearing pillow blocks and flanges, corrosion-resistant mounted units, SAF split block and SNT split plummer block housings and solid-block spherical roller bearing pillow blocks. Lubrication products include GR mounted bearing greases, single-point lubricators and Solid Lube.

Where Timken bearings are used

Gearboxes, pumps, fans and blowers, conveyors and crushers, rolling mills, food processing lines and vehicle wheel ends.

Ordering Timken bearings: what we need

Give the complete part number stamped on the bearing, including any prefix and suffix. Inch-series tapered roller bearings have separate numbers for cone and cup, so quote both. If the marking is worn, measure bore, outside diameter and width and tell us the machine and shaft position. For housed units give the housing type, shaft size and locking method. State the quantity and any precision class or special clearance required.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I read an SNT part number?
The prefix gives the style (SNT two-bolt, FSNT four-bolt, D ductile iron, N light series), then the bearing-bore code and housing series, for example SNT 512-610.
Which seals are available for SNT blocks?
Double-lip (TSNG), V-ring (VR), labyrinth with O-ring (LO) and taconite (TA), plus end covers (EC) when the shaft ends inside the block.
What shaft sizes do SNT housings cover?
20 to 160 mm in the 200-300 and 500-600 series and 150 to 480 mm in the 3000 and 3100 series, per the Timken catalogue.
Is a marine or corrosive coating available?
Yes. Timken lists a special coating system, ordered by adding the suffix /127 to the housing number.
Is Seven Star LLC a distributor of Timken?
No, Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat that quotes against the part number you supply.
