Selectarc FCW NI625 ENiCrMo3T0-4 Nickel Flux-Cored Wire

Description

Alloy 625 flux-cored wire for cladding and dissimilar joints

The Selectarc FCW NI625 is a rutile-basic flux-cored nickel-base wire for gas-shielded welding of alloy 625 type materials and special austenitic stainless steels. It is classified AWS A5.34 ENiCrMo3T0-4 and ISO 12153 T Ni 6625 (NiCr22Mo9Nb) B M21 3, and Selectarc specifies it for welding in the flat position.

The deposit offers excellent resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion and chloride stress corrosion cracking. Because it keeps high mechanical properties at low temperature, it can be used for cryogenic applications, and it is also suitable for dissimilar joints between low-alloy steels, stainless steels and nickel-base alloys.

Where FCW NI625 is used

Selectarc names cladding on 5% and 9% nickel steels and the construction of equipment exposed to oxidising and corrosive attack at high temperatures as main applications. The data sheet impact value of 60 J at -196 °C is the property that makes alloy 625 fillers standard for 9% Ni LNG tanks and process equipment.

In oil and gas fabrication, alloy 625 flux-cored wire is widely used for weld overlay of valve bodies, flanges, wellhead components and vessel internals, and for butt welds in 625 or 6Mo stainless piping that can be positioned flat. Compared with GTAW cladding it raises deposition considerably; compared with SAW or electroslag strip cladding it handles smaller and more complex parts. For manual welding of the same alloy, see the related Selectarc Ni625 electrode.

Welding recommendations

The 1.2 mm wire runs at 130 to 250 A and the 1.6 mm wire at 150 to 300 A, both at 24 to 32 V on DC positive with M21 argon/CO2 gas flowing at 10 to 20 l/min and a stick-out of 12 to 25 mm. Position the work flat or use a positioner, since the slag system is designed for downhand welding.

Nickel weld metal is sluggish, so keep a slight push angle, wide enough bevels and good interpass cleaning to avoid lack of fusion and slag entrapment. On overlays, measure iron dilution at the specified surface depth; many oil and gas specifications cap Fe at 5% or 10% there, which determines how many layers are needed. Keep spools dry and sealed until use.

About brand

Selectarc is a French manufacturer of welding and brazing filler metals, headquartered in Grandvillars, France. Its welding activity began in 1952 with Selectarc Industrie, a plant making covered electrodes, and the business is the welding and brazing division of the family group Viellard Migeon & Compagnie. In 2025 Framatome took a 40% stake in the company.

Selectarc welding and brazing products

The welding range covers covered electrodes for carbon, low-alloy, stainless and nickel-base steels, MIG and TIG wires, flux-cored wires and hardfacing products, with brazing alloys made at the former Reboud-Roche foundry. Selectarc lists the nuclear, defence and aerospace industries among its key markets, and welding production is concentrated at its Grandvillars site, which also houses the research laboratory.

Ordering Selectarc filler metals: what we need

Give the product name, for example Selectarc Ni625, and the AWS or ISO classification in your procedure, the diameter and length, and the quantity. Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Muscat, checks the grade against the Selectarc technical data sheet and can provide the data sheet and the certificates issued with the order on request.
