Types of gear unit in this category
Shaft-mount reducers like the Dodge Torque-Arm II mount directly on the driven shaft, which suits belt conveyors and saves foundations and couplings. Concentric and parallel-shaft gear units such as the Dodge Maxum XTR and MagnaGear XTR deliver very high torques for heavy conveyors and mills, and the Flender ONE platform and H-series units cover industrial applications with cooling options for hot environments. Worm gear reducers like the Dodge Tigear-2 give compact right-angle drives, and modular reducers and gearmotors such as the Dodge Quantis combine motor and gearbox for general machinery. KRACHT drive technology products cover hydraulic and mechanical drive components.
How to select a gear reducer
Define the input power and speed, the output speed or ratio, and the required output torque. Apply a service factor for the type of load, hours of operation and starts per hour. Check the mounting position, shaft arrangement (solid, hollow or shaft-mount), and overhung and thrust loads. For hot climates check thermal capacity, since a reducer may need a fan, cooling coil or oil cooler to stay within temperature at full load. Confirm lubrication and sealing for dusty sites.

Frequently Asked Questions
A multiplier applied to the rated power or torque to allow for shock loads, long operating hours and frequent starts. A conveyor running 24 hours a day with moderate shock needs a higher service factor than a light, intermittent drive.
It mounts directly on the pulley shaft and is held by a torque arm, so no separate base, alignment or output coupling is needed.
The power a gear unit can transmit continuously without its oil exceeding the allowed temperature. In hot climates it can be lower than the mechanical rating, so cooling may be required.
For compact right-angle drives with moderate power and high ratios. Its efficiency is lower than helical or bevel-helical units, so it is less suited to large continuous drives.
