Rittal VX25 Ri4Power Switchgear and Power Distribution System

Description

A modular switchgear system built on the VX25 enclosure

The Rittal VX25 Ri4Power is a modular system for low-voltage switchgear and power distribution assemblies, built on the VX25 baying enclosure. Rittal describes it as an enclosure and busbar system in one: the VX25 frame carries the busbars, compartment side panels and dividers, so one cabinet line can hold incoming air circuit-breakers, outgoing feeders, couplers and fused sections. It is rated for currents up to 6300 A and is intended for plant, industrial and infrastructure power rooms.

Each enclosure panel can be divided into separately configured busbar compartments, functional units and connection areas, with form separation from Form 2 to Form 4 according to the Rittal brochure. Compartment side panels run the full enclosure height, which replaces individual vertical partitions between sections and cuts the number of parts. The 25 mm enclosure pitch pattern lets horizontal compartment dividers slide in at any height without extra brackets.

Section types and busbar systems

The ACB section takes the infeed or outgoing circuit of an air circuit-breaker. Rittal states that it accepts open and compact breakers from ABB, Eaton, General Electric, Mitsubishi, Schneider Electric, Siemens, LSIS and Terasaki. The outgoing section combines switchgear, power supply outlets and control units in compartments shielded from each other. The coupling section connects or separates busbar systems so that individual sub-sections can be isolated while the rest keeps running.

Fuse-switch disconnector sections use plug-in NH slimline fuse-switch disconnectors on vertical multi-terminal busbars, with a cable chamber for cable entry from above or below. An energy storage section is offered for battery energy storage installations. Pre-punched knock-outs in the compartment panels allow PE and N conductors to run straight through every section type, and bar supports screw directly to the frame, which Rittal says saves up to 50 percent of assembly time.

Planning, design verification and ordering

Configuration is done with Rittal Power Engineering, which also generates the design verification and drawings for copper connection kits. Before ordering, confirm the rated current and short-circuit level, form of separation, protection category, busbar position, breaker makes and frame sizes, cable entry direction and the enclosure widths and heights needed. The sheet is a system brochure and catalogue, so individual article numbers are selected in the configurator or the full Rittal catalogue. For compact assemblies up to 2100 A see also the VX25 Ri4Power 185 mm system on this site.

About brand

Many control panels sit inside a Rittal enclosure or one built to the same pattern. Rittal, founded in 1961 and based in Herborn, Germany, makes enclosures, enclosure climate control and power distribution components. Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Muscat, lists Rittal enclosures and cooling units for panel builders and maintenance teams in Oman and the GCC, including the TS 8 system, Blue e+ cooling units and a KEL Ex stainless steel enclosure.

Rittal products listed on our site

The TS 8 is the free-standing, bayable enclosure system found in a very large number of existing panels. Blue e+ wall-mounted cooling units remove heat from closed enclosures. The KEL 9404.600 is a stainless steel Ex enclosure, listed at 380 x 600 x 210 mm, for terminal and junction duties in hazardous areas.

Ordering Rittal enclosures and cooling units: what we need

Rittal parts are ordered by a seven-digit model number such as 9404.600. Send that number, or the width, height and depth, material, protection category and door arrangement. For cooling units add the required cooling output, the rated voltage and the mounting cut-out of the unit being replaced. For Ex enclosures, state the zone and the marking required.
