Multi-voltage 400 A CC/CV inverter for site and yard work

The GYS EXAGON 400 FLEX CC/CV (ref. 069718) is a portable 5-in-1 multi-process welding power source made in France. Power factor correction and GYS FLEX technology let it connect to single-phase or three-phase supplies anywhere from 190 V to 600 V, which makes it practical where the available mains is unknown or unstable, and it is rated for use on a 36 kVA generator. It is supplied without accessories.

In constant-current mode it welds MMA with rutile, basic, stainless, cast-iron, aluminium and cellulosic electrodes up to 6 mm, pulsed MMA for vertical positions, TIG DC with lift ignition, and carbon arc gouging up to 6.5 mm. In constant-voltage mode it runs MIG/MAG with solid wire from 0.6 to 1.6 mm or flux-cored wire up to 2.4 mm through the optional NOMADFEED 425-4 CC/CV wire feeder.

Controls and optional equipment

Process and parameters are set with two thumbwheels on a display that stays readable in bright light. Up to 50 programs per process can be stored, current and voltage are shown during and after welding for procedure qualification, and the keypad can be locked. Arc force is adjustable in MMA and inductance in MIG-MAG.

GYS lists these accessories: NOMADFEED 425-4 CC/CV wire feeder (036291), NOMADCABLE 10 m (032446), MMA kit no. 7 500 A / 50 mm² (047419), JOBSITE XL sack truck (039568), RC-HA1 8 m (045675) and RC-FA1 4 m (045682) remote controls, and a robot interface module (071940). The EXATIG HF unit (013780) adds HF ignition and gas control for TIG.

Where the EXAGON 400 FLEX is used

A multi-voltage CC/CV source is typical for pipeline spreads, shutdown work, shipyards and remote sites that move between generator and grid power. Welding leads of up to 100 m are accepted, on-demand ventilation limits dust ingress, and the heavy metal casing with shock pads and two steel handles is built for lifting by crane or hand.
