Description
ER2209 TIG rod for 2205 duplex stainless steel
Böhler Thermanit 22/09 is a solid TIG rod of type ER2209 / W 22 9 3 N L designed for welding 2205 duplex stainless steel. Böhler Welding states resistance to intercrystalline corrosion and to wet corrosion up to 475 °F, good resistance to stress corrosion cracking in chloride and hydrogen-sulphide bearing environments, and high resistance to pitting from the Cr and Mo contents. It is used for joining and surfacing with matching and similar duplex steels and cast grades, so it is a rod for duplex piping, pressure vessels and heat exchangers in oil, gas, desalination and chemical plants.

Duplex welding practice and selection
Duplex stainless steel keeps its balance of ferrite and austenite only when heat input, interpass temperature and cooling rate stay within the procedure window, and the data sheet warns that attention must be paid to embrittlement susceptibility of the parent metal. Handling and what to confirm
Store duplex rods clean and dry, apply argon back purging on the root, and monitor interpass temperature. Welds should be tested for ferrite balance and, in corrosive service, for corrosion resistance if the specification asks for it. Confirm diameter, pack size, certificate level and any NACE or ASTM A923 test requirement when ordering.
