HYTORC MXT+ Square-Drive Hydraulic Torque Wrench

Description

The HYTORC MXT+ is a square-drive hydraulic torque wrench that can be set up three ways: with a side or coaxial reaction arm, with a rear reaction arm, or in reaction-free mode when used with the manufacturer washer or nut system. It combines the original MXT design with coaxial reaction drive, an auto-release feature and an embedded cycle counter, and the manufacturer states it is constructed from aircraft-grade aluminum for more than 5,000 duty cycles at maximum torque. Seven Star LLC quotes it for refinery turnarounds, pipeline flanges, power-plant casings and general heavy bolting.

Three bolting configurations on one wrench

Most square-drive wrenches need a rear reaction arm resting on a neighbouring nut or flange. The MXT+ adds coaxial and side reaction arms, so the arm can be turned to whichever position gives a stable reaction point, and the manufacturer lists an extensive range of fixtures: ALCO arm, track pad fixture, crab nut fixture, HYTORC Nut direct drive, hex direct drive and rotatable reaction arm. With a HYTORC Washer driver the tool becomes pinch-point free, because the reaction is taken by the washer under the nut. The auto-release feature removes the need to flip a lever to unlock the wrench from the application, and quick couplers with a locking mechanism prevent accidental disconnection of the hose.

Choosing the MXT+ size and accessories

Select by square drive size, required torque and available reaction. The 3/4 in and 1 in models suit small and medium flange bolting, while the two 1-1/2 in models cover large studs up to 16468 Nm. Reaction-free work needs the washer or nut system, which in turn needs enough thread protrusion for the washer and the correct stud material, so plan these accessories at the same time as the wrench. The embedded cycle counter helps schedule maintenance, and the spline cover supplied with each tool protects the rear spline when drive reaction systems are used. A hydraulic pump with the correct pressure rating and a hose set are separate items.

How the HYTORC MXTP works

Hydraulic oil from the pump pushes a piston inside the wrench. The piston drives a ratchet that turns the square drive in small steps. Each stroke adds torque to the nut or bolt. A reaction arm presses on a fixed point and takes the opposite force, so the operator does not feel it.

Where the MXTP is used

  • Refinery turnarounds
  • Pipeline flanges
  • Power-plant casings
  • Heavy structural bolting
  • General maintenance bolting

Selection checklist for the MXTP

  • Model, MXTP-01, 03, 05 or 10
  • Torque range needed
  • Square drive size
  • Reaction arm type
  • Access space around the bolt
  • Tool weight
  • Angle measurement need
  • Pump and hose

Installation, commissioning and maintenance notes for the MXTP

Connect the hoses with the quick couplers and check they lock. Fit the socket and the reaction arm. Set the pump pressure for the target torque. Make a test stroke on a spare bolt. Keep the couplers and the spline clean, and send the wrench for calibration on schedule.

Requesting a quotation for the HYTORC MXTP

About brand

HYTORC is a US industrial bolting specialist known for hydraulic torque wrenches, electric and pneumatic torque tools, pumps and the reaction-washer and nut systems that go with them. The company has focused on controlled bolted joints since 1968, and its tools are used for flange make-up, structural steel, wind and power plant maintenance.

Torque tools for controlled bolting

The catalogue covers low-clearance and square-drive hydraulic wrenches, cordless electric torque tools, pneumatic multipliers and hydraulic pumps. Many tools accept the company reaction washer or nut, so the tool can push against the fastener itself instead of an adjacent object.

Specifying bolting equipment

Choose a tool by bolt size, required torque range, access clearance and the power source available on site. Each model page lists the published torque ranges and links to the manufacturer cut sheet where one exists. Seven Star LLC supplies HYTORC equipment against a stated torque range, drive size and power supply, and quotes after the bolting requirement is confirmed.

HYTORC publishes torque charts, manuals and cut sheets for each tool family, so the joint calculation can be checked against the manufacturer data before an order is placed.
