Brand:

Sensus 420 and 420PC Multijet Water Meter DN 15-40

Description

The Sensus 420 and 420PC are multijet water meters for DN 15 to DN 40 at PN 16, with the 420 having a wet dial register and the 420PC a semi dry, protected dial. Both have a standard HRI interface for automatic meter reading and a robust brass body, and the data sheet stresses reliability in poor water quality, quiet operation and long-term stable performance. They suit residential and small commercial connections where the register must stay legible for years in all conditions.

Register and tamper protection

On the 420 the register wheels for cubic metres and the first pointer are immersed in a lubricant, which prevents condensation and keeps the dial legible regardless of the water, so it is not affected by fogging or algae. The 420PC adds a protected dial for excellent legibility on all networks. The five-drum display has 5 mm digits on a white background and can be read from more than a metre away. The meter has no magnetic transmission and a magnet-free HRI interface, so a magnet placed nearby has no effect, and the 8 mm polycarbonate window and brass body protect against mechanical tampering.

Choosing the model and size

The turbine runs on sapphire bearings, the injection box finish prevents deposits and double filtration is provided by a pipe strainer and a seat filter. Install the meter horizontally at a low point of the pipeline with the flow arrow matching the flow, flush the pipework first and open the upstream valve slowly. Select the size from Q3, noting the connection threads from G3/4B to G2B and the lengths in the table; ratios are R160, R80 or R40 as approved, and the 420PC can be delivered stamped in the lower ratio on request. Confirm the HRI sensor type, optional non-return valve, customised marking and the approvals your supply authority requires; the listed approvals are the European MID and ISO ones.

How the Sensus 420 / 420PC works

Water enters the meter and strikes a turbine through several jets. The turbine turns at a speed in proportion to the flow. A gear train carries the turn to the register, which adds up the volume in cubic metres. A strainer in front of the turbine keeps larger particles out.

Where the Sensus 420 / 420PC is used

  • Residential water connections
  • Small commercial buildings
  • Apartment blocks
  • Small industrial sites
  • Automatic meter reading networks

Installation, commissioning and maintenance notes for the Sensus 420 / 420PC

Fit the meter horizontally in a pipe that stays full. Follow the flow arrow on the body. Flush the pipe before fitting to remove debris. Open the valves slowly to avoid shocks. Read the register and record the start value.

About brand

Sensus is a water and thermal energy metering manufacturer whose Sensus International business is based in Ludwigshafen am Rhein, Germany. Its range runs from static electromagnetic and ultrasonic meters such as iPERL and Cordonel to volumetric, multijet, turbine and compound meters, with SensusRF radio for fixed-network and walk-by or drive-by reading. Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Muscat, lists Sensus meters that are backed by the manufacturer data sheets.\n\n

Sensus meter technologies

\n\nSensus International states that it is one of the few global manufacturers offering both leading static metering technologies, electromagnetic and ultrasonic, alongside traditional mechanical meters. Piston meters such as the 620 and 640, the 420 multijet and the DomoJet single jet cover residential and sub-metering duty, while the WP-Dynamic turbine, the WPV-MS compound meter and the MeiStream Plus bulk meter serve larger flows.\n\n

What we need to quote a Sensus meter

\n\nSend the DN, connection or flange drilling, lay length, ratio, temperature class, the approvals your utility requires (MID, OIML R49, ISO 4064 or potable water approvals) and the radio protocol. Note that the North American iPERL+ is documented in US units and standards, separately from the international range.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the 420 and 420PC?
The 420 has a wet dial register and the 420PC has a semi dry, protected dial; both are multijet meters.
Is the meter ready for AMR?
Yes, it has a standard HRI interface with a pulse weight from 1 litre, and the HRI sensor can be retrofitted.
Can magnets affect it?
The data sheet states there is no magnetic transmission and a magnet-free HRI interface, so a magnet has no effect.
What sizes and pressure does it cover?
DN 15 to 40 with Q3 of 2.5 to 16 m3/h at PN 16.
In what position must it be installed?
Horizontally, in a low point of the pipeline, with the flow arrow matching the direction of flow.
