Brand:

Kübler Sendix 5000 Incremental Encoder Shaft Version 5000 PPR

Description

A rugged incremental encoder for drives, conveyors and machines

The Kübler Sendix 5000 is the solid-shaft incremental encoder of the Sendix range, with up to 5000 pulses per revolution and a choice of RS422, push-pull or open-collector outputs. Its Safety-Lock bearing construction resists vibration and installation errors, the die-cast housing reaches IP66/IP67 with a shaft seal, and the working range runs from -40 to +85 C. The hollow-shaft sibling is the Sendix 5020.

The datasheet lists cable outlets in several standard lengths, M12 (5 or 8-pin), M23 (12-pin), MIL (6, 7 or 10-pin) and Sub-D versions, and flanges in US and European standards, and states that the range is compatible with all US and European standards.

Output circuits and supply options

The third digit of the type key selects the electrical interface. All circuits are short-circuit proof when the supply is correctly connected, with the limits in the datasheet footnotes.

Code Output circuit Supply Data
1 RS422 (TTL compatible), with inverted signals 5 to 30 V DC Max. 300 kHz; high min. 2.5 V, low max. 0.5 V; reverse polarity protected
4 RS422 (TTL compatible), with inverted signals 5 V DC (+/-5 %) Max. 300 kHz; no reverse polarity protection
5 Push-pull (HTL/TTL universal) 10 to 30 V DC Max. 300 kHz; high min. +V – 1.0 V; reverse polarity protected
2 Push-pull, 7272 compatible 5 to 30 V DC Max. 300 kHz; high min. +V – 2.0 V
8 Push-pull, 7272 compatible, without capacitor (US version) 5 to 30 V DC Max. 300 kHz; not a CE type, as the datasheet states
3 Open collector (7273), US version 5 to 30 V DC Max. 300 kHz; 20 mA sink at 30 V DC

Choosing flange, shaft and connection

Flanges include synchro (50.8 mm and 58 mm), clamping (58 mm), square (63.5 mm), servo and Euro (115 mm) versions, in IP65 or IP66/IP67. Shafts range from 6 x 10 mm to 12 x 20 mm and imperial sizes with flat, plus an 11 x 33 mm shaft with feather key for the Euro flange. Pulse rate is the last four digits, for example 1024 gives 8.5000.xxxx.1024, and special cable lengths add a length in decimetres. If every parameter is the underlined preferred option, Kübler states a delivery time of 10 working days for up to 10 pieces.

For a hollow-shaft version see the Sendix 5020 page, or browse encoders and the published Autonics E40S incremental encoder“>Autonics E40S. Confirm the pulse rate, supply voltage and cable length before ordering.

How the Kubler Sendix 5000 works

The Sendix 5000 is an incremental encoder with a solid shaft. A disc with fine lines turns with the shaft, and an optical sensor reads the lines. For every pulse the electronics send out square-wave signals on two channels shifted by 90 degrees, plus a zero pulse once per turn. A drive or a PLC counts the pulses to find position and speed, and the phase shift shows the direction of rotation. Up to 5000 pulses per revolution can be ordered.

Where the Sendix 5000 is used

  • Feedback on motors and frequency drives
  • Conveyors and material handling
  • Packaging and printing machines
  • Cranes, hoists and lifting gear
  • Machine tools and test benches

Selection checklist for the Sendix 5000

  • Pulses per revolution, from 1 to 5000
  • Output: RS422, push-pull or open collector
  • Supply voltage of 5 V DC or 10 to 30 V DC
  • Protection: IP65, or IP66/IP67 with a shaft seal
  • Cable outlet or connector: M12, M23, MIL or Sub-D
  • Flange and shaft diameter for the mounting
  • Maximum speed and shaft load
  • Ex 2/22 variant where an explosive atmosphere applies

Installation, commissioning and maintenance notes

Connect the encoder to the machine shaft with a flexible coupling so that axial and radial offsets do not load the bearings. Respect the shaft load of 100 N radial and 50 N axial. Use screened cable and keep it away from motor cables. Check the pulse count and direction with the drive before the first run. The Safety-Lock bearing needs no maintenance in normal use, but keep the shaft seal clean.

Sendix 5000 environment

The working temperature is -40 to 85 degrees C with a connector. The shaft is stainless steel and the unit weighs about 0.4 kg.

Sendix 5000 shock and vibration

The datasheet gives 3000 m/s2 for 6 ms shock and 300 m/s2 vibration from 10 to 2000 Hz.

Encoder records for Sendix 5000

Keep the order code, the pulse rate and the wiring colours with the machine file for later replacement.

Choosing the right Sendix 5000 version

Where the encoder cannot sit on a free shaft end, the hollow-shaft Sendix 5020 may suit better.

About brand

Kübler is a family-owned German manufacturer of encoders and measuring technology, founded in 1960 and based in Villingen-Schwenningen. The company develops and produces rotary encoders, linear measuring systems, inclinometers, counters and displays, signal converters and slip rings for machine builders and plant operators. Seven Star LLC supplies Kübler encoders to industrial customers in Oman and the GCC on inquiry.

Rotary encoders for drives and machinery

The Sendix family covers incremental encoders such as the 5000 and 5020, optical and magnetic absolute encoders with SSI, BiSS or analog outputs, and explosion-protected versions with ATEX and IECEx approvals. One manufacturer can therefore serve drives, cranes, winches, packaging lines and hazardous-area machinery.

Counters, displays and connection technology

The company also lists pulse counters, tachometers, process displays, signal converters, cordsets and connectors that match its encoder range. Choosing the correct variant depends on the shaft or hollow-shaft size, flange, interface, resolution and protection class, and we check every order code against the manufacturer's datasheet before quoting.
