Brand:

DEIF DVC 550 Digital Voltage Controller AVR 7 A

Description

A digital AVR with power-factor and kVAr regulation

The DEIF DVC 550 is a digital automatic voltage regulator that monitors and regulates the alternator output with rated field current up to 7 A. It suits SHUNT, AREP (auxiliary winding) and PMG (permanent magnet) excitation and adjusts the exciter field current to hold the set alternator output. Beyond plain voltage control it offers five regulation modes, so it can also run a set at a fixed power factor or reactive power when paralleled.

Regulation modes and protections

The five modes are voltage, field current (manual), generator power factor, generator kVAr and grid power factor. Regulation features include voltage equalisation, droop management, soft start, a load acceptance module (L.A.M.) for heavy load events and negative field forcing. Protection functions cover under and over voltage, under and over frequency, active and reactive reverse power, synchro check, open and shorted diode failures, with response times under 400 ms for short circuit, loss of voltage reference, over-excitation, high temperature, speed drop and stator current events.

Configuration uses DEIF EasyReg Advanced over USB, and the unit is powered from the USB connection during setup. It also includes an event log and data logger option.

Controllers and ordering

The DVC 550 works with the AGC-4 (software 4.75.x or later, requiring option T2), AGC-4 Mk II (6.00.x or later) and AGC 150 (1.03.x or later), and the iE 150 is listed as supported. A connector kit (2913940150.05) is included with the unit. Confirm the excitation type, field current and resistance and the controller software version. The DVC 350 page covers the 5 A model.

The terminal side carries LED indication, the CAN J1939 port, analogue inputs and outputs, relay outputs, digital inputs and outputs, the USB port, temperature sensor inputs (PTC or Pt100), current transformer inputs, alternator voltage sensing, mains sensing on L1 and L2, the DC supply and the excitation output F+ and F-. The field supply is wired to X1, Z1, X2 and Z2 for AREP, to X2, X1 and Z2 for PMG and to X1 and X2 for SHUNT. CT input U is used for paralleling and measurement, while V and W are for measurement only. Accuracy classes are 0.5 for AC voltage, 0.2 for frequency, 2.5 for AC current, 5 for field excitation current, 2 for Pt100 inputs and 1 for analogue inputs. Vibration is rated 3.5 mm from 3 to 25 Hz and 4.4 g from 25 to 100 Hz, and shock is 50 g for 11 ms.

How the DEIF DVC 550 works

The controller measures the alternator voltage. It compares the value with the set point. It then adjusts the current in the exciter field. The alternator output stays at the set level as the load changes.

About brand

DEIF is a Danish, family-owned and independent manufacturer of control and protection devices for power generation, founded in a Copenhagen backyard in 1933 and now based in Skive. Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Muscat, quotes DEIF AGC, SGC and CGC genset controllers for standby plants, paralleling systems and engine-driven sets.

DEIF genset and power management controllers

DEIF describes itself as a supplier of power control solutions for decentralised power generation on land and at sea. Its genset controllers range from the compact SGC and CGC units to the AGC 150 and AGC-4 Mk II controllers, which add synchronisation and power management for plants with many gensets. DEIF data sheets state the supply range, I/O, protections and approvals of each controller.

Ordering DEIF controllers

Name the exact model and variant, the software package or option letters where they apply, the quantity and the engine make and ECU protocol. DEIF configures several controllers by variant and option, so the data sheet on each page should be checked against the project before a quotation is issued.
