KRACHT TM Turbine Flow Meter

Description

Overview

The KRACHT TM is a stainless steel turbine flow meter for reliable, continuous and accurate measurement of liquids flowing under pressure in closed pipes. Built by KRACHT GmbH in Werdohl, Germany, a company of the Atlas Copco Group, the KRACHT TM covers nine nominal sizes from 0.275 to 68 with measuring ranges from 0.92 l/min up to 1 133.33 l/min, operating pressures up to 320 bar and media temperatures from -40 to 120 °C on the standard version. Typical measuring accuracy is ±1.0 % on the small sizes and ±0.5 % from size 2.2 upward. Because housing, flanges and rotor are all made of stainless steel 1.4541, the meter handles water, cooling lubricants, emulsions and other lubricating and non-lubricating media, including aggressive ones.

Seven Star LLC supplies the KRACHT TM to process plants, utilities and machine builders throughout the Sultanate of Oman and the GCC, with engineering support in Muscat. We review the liquid properties, flow range and connection type with each buyer so that the meter is sized correctly before it ships to Muscat, Sohar, Duqm, Salalah or any other site in the region.

Measuring Principle of the KRACHT TM

Inside the KRACHT TM, a turbine rotor is mounted concentrically in the stainless steel housing between a front and a rear stator, which straighten the flow before and after the rotor. The liquid sets the rotor turning at a speed proportional to the flow rate, and a sensor in the housing detects the passing blades without contact. After signal processing, the rotation is available as a frequency, an IO-Link value or an analogue current, depending on the electronics version.

As general engineering background, turbine meters offer a wide measuring range, a very low pressure drop and fast response at modest cost, but their calibration depends on viscosity and on a well-developed velocity profile. KRACHT therefore specifies the KRACHT TM for viscosities of 1.0 to 50 mm²/s and densities of 500 to 1 500 kg/m³, requires horizontal mounting within ±5 degrees with flow in the marked direction, and recommends flow-calming sections to achieve the stated accuracy. For high-precision duties the manufacturer also recommends calibration.

Engineering Design of the KRACHT TM

Sizes 0.275 to 16 of the KRACHT TM are supplied with pipe connections from 6 to 25 mm nominal diameter and are rated for 320 bar. Sizes 8 to 68 are available with flange connections from DN20 to DN50 at the 40 bar pressure stage. The rotor runs in carbide or PTFE bearings, selected through the type key, and the PTFE bearing allows a lower starting flow on several sizes. The medium may carry limited contamination: up to 50 g/m³ of foreign matter, with 80 % of particles below 50 µm, 20 % below 500 µm and a maximum hardness of 100 HB. Pipe-connected meters weigh between 0.20 and 0.40 kg, while flanged versions weigh 2.6 to 8.3 kg.

The standard electronics provide a single square-wave channel with PNP, NPN or push-pull output from a 10 to 30 V supply, IP 65 protection and a maximum power requirement of 0.9 W. The IO-Link version calculates measured values internally and can run in SIO mode as a pulse transmitter or in IO-Link mode for direct PLC integration, while the analogue version delivers a 4 to 20 mA current signal with an additional digital output.

Key Features of the KRACHT TM

The KRACHT TM brings the following practical advantages to industrial flow measurement:

  • Very large overall measuring range from 0.92 l/min to 1 133.33 l/min across nine nominal sizes.
  • Typical measuring accuracy of ±0.5 % on sizes 2.2 to 68 and ±1.0 % on sizes 0.275 to 1.1.
  • Stainless steel 1.4541 housing, flanges and turbine rotor for water, emulsions and aggressive media.
  • High working pressure of up to 320 bar with pipe connections, and a 40 bar flange version for larger lines.
  • Very low pressure drop and low noise emission compared with displacement meters of similar capacity.
  • Carbide or PTFE rotor bearings to suit the medium and the required low-flow performance.
  • Standard pulse, IO-Link and 4 to 20 mA analogue electronics, all rated IP 65.
  • Tolerance of limited particle content up to 50 g/m³ within the defined size and hardness limits.

Industrial Applications

KRACHT positions the KRACHT TM for flow measurement of water, cooling lubricants, emulsions and other lubricating and non-lubricating media. Typical uses in Oman and the GCC include cooling water monitoring on compressors, gensets and hydraulic power units, coolant and emulsion supply to machine tools in fabrication shops, chemical injection and wash water lines on process skids, and flow verification on test benches. Its stainless construction suits the humid coastal conditions of Sohar and Salalah, and the 320 bar rating covers high-pressure water and hydraulic test circuits.

Seven Star LLC supplies the KRACHT TM together with suitable cables and evaluation electronics and can advise where a positive displacement meter is the better option, for example the VCA aluminium gear flow meter for oils at low flow or the VCM gear flow meter for compact installations. For complete fluid packages, the KP Series internal gear pump from the same manufacturer is also available through our team.

About brand

Gear technology runs through the whole KRACHT catalog: gear pumps to move oil, gear flow meters to measure it, gear motors to drive with it, and the valves that protect the circuit. The company was established in 1911 and is based in Werdohl, Germany. Seven Star LLC lists KRACHT pumps, flow meters, valves and hydraulic motors, and sources them by type key for machinery and marine users in Oman.

KRACHT pumps, flow meters and valves listed

The listing follows four product groups, pumps, fluid measurement, valves and drives:

  • Pump technology: KF gear pumps for transfer of lubricating and other fluids, the KF-F version for fuels, and KP high pressure gear pumps
  • Fluid measurement technology: gear type flow meters such as the VCA in aluminum
  • Valve technology: SPV and SPVF pressure relief valves, the DBD directly controlled poppet valve, HV and HVF pilot operated valves and the DV B hydraulically pilot controlled valve
  • Drive technology: KM hydraulic gear motors

Where KRACHT equipment is used

KRACHT equipment serves the marine, renewable energy, process technology and hydraulics industries. In practice that means lube oil and fuel oil transfer on engines, gearboxes and compressors, oil supply units, and metering of oils, resins, paints and other viscous media with gear flow meters in dosing and test bench systems. Enquiries from the GCC are mostly for a KRACHT pump or valve fitted to an imported machine or a ship's auxiliary system.

Ordering KRACHT parts: what we need

KRACHT products carry a type key on the nameplate that encodes size, direction of rotation, shaft end, housing and seal material, connections and special numbers. An example from this page is SPV 10 L1G 1 A 12. Send the complete key and the serial or order number shown with it. If the plate is damaged, send the fluid and viscosity, flow rate, operating pressure and temperature, drive speed, port type and size, and photos with main dimensions. For KRACHT flow meters add the measuring range and the pickup or electronics required. We compare the key with KRACHT documentation and supply the manufacturer's data sheet on request.
