Brand:

ABB S202-C6 Two-pole Miniature Circuit Breaker, C 6 A

Description

Ordered as 2CDS252001R0064, the S202-C6 is a two-pole breaker from the System pro M compact S200 series with a 6 A rating. It combines a delayed thermal release for overload with an electromagnetic release for short circuit, and the C curve tolerates normal switching-on surges. With a 6 kA rating under IEC/EN 60898-1, a typical job is a phase-and-neutral or two-phase control supply.

Related devices can be found under circuit breakers; for loads beyond 63 A look at the SACE Tmax XT series.

Trip limits and temperature derating for 6 A

For a 6 A C-curve breaker the magnetic release acts between 30 A and 60 A (5 to 10 x In), with a delay of 0.1 to 15 s at the lower limit. The bimetal element holds at 6.78 A (1.13 x In) for one hour and must trip inside one hour at 8.7 A (1.45 x In); the reference temperature is 30 C. In warmer boards ABB’s derating table allows 5.7 A at 40 C, 5.3 A at 50 C and 4.9 A at 60 C. In a crowded row the rated current must be multiplied by 0.9, 0.8 or 0.75 for two or three, four or five, or six or more neighbours; spacing pieces cancel the factor.

Accessories for the two-pole breaker

The 2P version isolates phase and neutral together, which suits 230 V circuits that need neutral isolation. Ratings are 400 V AC (IEC/EN 60898-1), 440 V AC (IEC/EN 60947-2) and 125 V DC. Add-on parts that clip to the breaker: auxiliary and signal contact blocks, shunt and undervoltage trips, a motorised operator and the DDA 200 earth-leakage block. The body needs 35 mm of DIN rail.

What the type name tells you

In S202-C6 the S200 housing is combined with 2 poles, the C characteristic and a 6 A rating. 2CDS252001R0064 is the order number for this exact type. Before an order goes out, match the pole count, curve, current, voltage and fault level against the installation drawings and decide about accessories.

Key features of the S202-C6

  • Two protected poles in a 35 mm wide body, switching both conductors of a circuit with one handle.
  • C tripping characteristic with an instantaneous range of 5 to 10 x In, which rides through the moderate inrush of small transformers, power supplies, contactor coils and lighting drivers.
  • Rated short-circuit capacity Icn of 6 kA under IEC/EN 60898-1 and ultimate breaking capacity Icu of 10 kA under IEC/EN 60947-2.
  • Electrical endurance of 20,000 operations and an impulse withstand voltage of 4 kV.
  • 35 mm² terminals top and bottom, tightened to 2.8 Nm.
  • A full set of clip-on accessories from the System pro M compact range.

Where a 6 A two-pole C breaker is used

A 6 A rating sits at the low end of the S200 range and is normally chosen for control and auxiliary circuits rather than for power distribution. Typical examples are the control transformer secondary or primary in a motor control panel, 230 V supplies to PLC and instrument power supplies, panel lighting and heater circuits, and small single-phase loads in building distribution boards. The two-pole build is used where both phase and neutral must be disconnected, or where a 400 V supply is taken between two phases.

Selecting between curves and ratings

Question What to consider
B, C or other curve? C is the general choice for mixed loads with moderate inrush; check the load inrush if a lower curve is considered, so nuisance tripping is avoided at switch-on.
Is 6 A enough? Compare the steady load current with the derated value for the board temperature and the number of neighbouring devices, as given in the table above.
Is 6 kA enough? The prospective short-circuit current at the board must not exceed the breaker rating unless a coordinated upstream device is confirmed by the manufacturer data.
Cable protection The breaker rating must suit the cable cross-section and installation method under the applicable wiring rules.

Installation and maintenance

  • Snap the breaker onto 35 mm DIN rail and tighten the terminals to the stated 2.8 Nm; re-check torque during scheduled panel maintenance, because loose terminals heat up.
  • Leave spacing pieces or free space in densely packed rows when the derating factors would otherwise reduce the usable current too far.
  • Use the operating handle periodically on circuits that are rarely switched, as part of routine inspection.
  • Fit IP40 covers or a suitable enclosure, since the device itself is IP20.

Considerations for Oman and the GCC

Distribution boards in plant rooms, rooftop enclosures and outdoor kiosks in Oman regularly see internal air temperatures well above the 30 °C reference used for the rating. ABB’s derating figures show the effect directly: at 50 °C the 6 A device carries 5.3 A. Good enclosure ventilation, shading of outdoor boards and sensible spacing help keep the breaker within its rating, and the derated value should be used when checking against the load.

What to include in an RFQ

Please give the type S202-C6 or the order code 2CDS252001R0064, the quantity, and any accessories needed such as auxiliary contacts, signal contacts, shunt trips or a DDA 200 earth-leakage block. If the breaker is replacing an existing device, mention the original make and type so the curve and breaking capacity can be compared.

About brand

ABB, formed in 1988 and headquartered in Zurich, covers an unusually long stretch of a plant's equipment list, from the flowmeter and analyzer in the field to the drive, breaker and protection relay in the electrical room.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier serving Oman and the GCC. Our ABB listing concentrates on measurement and analytics: ABB flowmeters, liquid analysis sensors and systems, level and pressure instruments. It also includes valve actuators, low voltage circuit breakers, ABB drives, soft starters and protection relays.

ABB product families on this page

Flow measurement includes ABB electromagnetic, Coriolis, vortex and swirl meters, sold under names such as ProcessMaster, AquaMaster, CoriolisMaster and SwirlMaster. Liquid analysis covers pH, conductivity and dissolved oxygen sensors with their transmitters. SensyTemp TSP sensors handle temperature. On the electrical side the listing has ACS355 machinery drives, the ACS550 general purpose drive, the ACQ580 for water and wastewater and the ACS880-01 industrial drive, with fieldbus adapters such as the FPBA-01 for PROFIBUS DP. Where ABB instruments and drives are used

Water and wastewater plants use the electromagnetic flowmeters, analyzers and ACQ580 drives together. Oil and gas, power and chemical plants specify the Coriolis and vortex meters, pressure and level transmitters and the 615 series relays for motor and transformer feeders. The drives run pumps, fans, conveyors and compressors in almost every industry.

Ordering ABB parts: what we need

For drives send the full type code from the rating label, for example ACS355-03E-05A6-4, plus the serial number if it is a replacement. For instruments send the complete order code, measuring span, process connection, wetted materials, output or protocol and the hazardous area approval. For breakers give frame size, rated current, breaking capacity, number of poles, trip unit and fixed or withdrawable version.
