Flender N-ARPEX All-Steel Multi-Disk Coupling

Description

An all-steel multi-disk coupling up to 2,000,000 Nm

The Flender N-ARPEX is an all-steel multi-disk coupling that Flender positions as a new market standard in technology and price. The brochure says it covers a torque range up to 2,000,000 Nm and is aimed at applications with the greatest capacity requirements and high cost pressure, particularly pumps, fans and compressors in the petrochemical industry.

N-ARPEX continues the ARPEX line with an optimised disk pack, revised component design, enclosed flange geometry, a standard catcher device that secures the intermediate spacer from flying off, and FEM-optimised force distribution. In its standard version it conforms with API 610 and API 671 and ATEX 2014/34/EU, and the usable temperature range is -50 to +280 C.

Designs explained

The type NEN has two hubs, an intermediate spacer and two disk packs; close-fitting bolts connect the ARN-6 series and conical bolts connect the ARN-8 and ARN-10 series, and the hubs have threaded pull-off holes. The type MCECM consists of two hubs and a preassembled intermediate unit in which the disk packs are bolted to the spacer and centering flanges at the factory, so only the hubs are bolted on site. The type MFEFM has a much larger bore capacity and is meant for comparatively large shaft diameters. The conical bolt connection makes large bolt connections considerably easier to assemble.

Applications and selection

Main application areas named in the brochure are pumps, fans, compressors, generators and turbine drives, axial and radial blowers, paper and printing machines, mixers and agitators, extruders, hoisting and travel gear, marine drives and water screw drive units. Provide rated power and speed, shaft diameters, spacer length, service factor and the standard that applies (API 610 or 671). Couplings are grouped in Electric Motors; a gear unit often paired is the Flender ONE.

Documents and quotation

The Flender document is attached. Seven Star LLC supplies Flender couplings on request and quotes against the exact type, size and bore. The attached document is Flender’s product brochure, which gives series ranges and design principles; detailed dimension tables come from the catalog or Flender on request, so confirm sizes before ordering.

About brand

Large industrial gearboxes are the product most engineers associate with Flender, a company founded in 1899 and based in Bocholt, Germany, that builds gear units, couplings and drive systems. Seven Star LLC sources and supplies Flender gear units and their spare parts for mills, conveyors, pumps and marine drives in Oman, working from the nameplate data. On some nameplates the name appears as Siemens Flender.

Flender gearbox types listed here

Four items are listed. Flender ONE is the manufacturer's redesigned single-stage helical gear unit. The H2SV 09 is a two-stage helical gear unit of size 09 with a solid output shaft, shown here with a cooling coil and oil tank. The NAVILUS line covers marine gearboxes, listed in a multiple-input, single-output arrangement that brings several engines onto one propeller shaft, and in a version for dredgers. Flender couplings such as the flexible N-EUPEX type are often ordered with a gear unit.

Ordering a Flender gearbox or parts: what we need

Send a photo of the nameplate showing type, size, serial or order number, ratio, power and speeds. For spares, the serial number lets the parts list be traced, so add the item number of the bearing, seal or gear set you need. For a new unit, give the driven machine, motor power and speed, output speed, mounting position, shaft arrangement, ambient temperature and cooling method. Marine and dredger gearboxes for GCC yards also need the class society.
