Portable Test & Measurement
Portable Test & Measurement lists the instruments technicians carry to the job and the reference calibrators that stand behind them in the workshop. Seven Star LLC supplies them from Muscat, Oman. Fluke makes up the largest share with process and electrical calibrators, followed by Elcometer coating inspection instruments, Beamex field calibrators, Thorlabs optical instruments, DeFelsko, Brüel & Kjær measurement microphones and Megger electrical testers, with ADASH vibration instruments also listed. Portable test equipment for water analysis, optics, thermal imaging and handheld XRF alloy analysis completes the group.

Choosing a field calibrator or portable tester
Start from the instruments to be checked. The reference should be several times more accurate than the device under test, so compare the calibrator specification with the tightest tolerance on your instrument list. Then check the functions: which signals it can source as well as measure, whether it stores results as a documenting calibrator, and which communication protocols it supports. For work inside a classified area the instrument must be the intrinsically safe version with ATEX or IECEx certification. Bench calibrators are chosen by the workload they must cover.
What to send for a test instrument quotation
Send the full model number with its option codes, the measuring ranges or pressure modules needed, whether an intrinsically safe version is required, and any need for the manufacturer’s accredited calibration certificate, since that is usually an option ordered with the instrument. We check the configuration against the manufacturer documentation for buyers across the GCC and propose the manufacturer’s successor when a model is obsolete.
What to include in your inquiry
These details let us quote the right item the first time.
- Parameter to measure and its range
- Required accuracy
- Model number, if already chosen
- Calibration certificate required or not
- Accessories (probes, leads, case)
Missing some of them? Send what you have. A nameplate photo or an old part number is enough to start.

Frequently Asked Questions
The manufacturer's successor to the 475 is the AMS Trex Device Communicator, which covers HART and FOUNDATION Fieldbus devices depending on the options ordered. Before changing over, check which protocol licenses and which hazardous-area version you need, and how device descriptions will be kept up to date. Send us the 475 model code and we will match the equivalent successor configuration.
A non-documenting calibrator sources and measures signals, and the technician writes down the results. A documenting calibrator stores the procedure for each instrument, records as-found and as-left readings, calculates pass or fail against the tolerance, and transfers the results to calibration management software. It saves time and removes transcription errors where many instruments are checked on a schedule.
Whenever the instrument is used inside a classified hazardous area without a gas-free permit. The intrinsically safe version carries an ATEX or IECEx marking that must cover the zone, gas group and temperature class of the area. It usually has reduced output power or fewer functions than the standard version, and only the batteries and accessories approved by the manufacturer may be used with it.
That depends on the manufacturer and model. Many instruments come with a statement or certificate of calibration traceable to national standards. A certificate with measured data from an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited laboratory is commonly a separate option that must be ordered with the instrument. Tell us what your quality system requires, and we will provide the certificates the manufacturer issues.
For loop work, yes. A multifunction calibrator measures and sources mA, voltage, resistance and frequency, simulates thermocouples and RTDs, and measures pressure through internal or external modules chosen by range. Checking a temperature sensor itself, and not only its transmitter, needs a heat source such as a dry block. Generating pressure needs a hand pump or a calibrator with a built-in pump.
