WIKA 232.50 Stainless Steel Bourdon Tube Pressure Gauge

Description

Overview

The WIKA 232.50 is a stainless steel Bourdon tube pressure gauge for the process industry, built to EN 837-1 and ASME B40.100. It is the unfilled (dry) member of the WIKA 232.50/233.50 family described in WIKA data sheet PM 02.02, and is designed for gaseous and liquid aggressive media that are not highly viscous or crystallising, including installations in aggressive environments. Nominal sizes are 63, 100 and 160 mm, and scale ranges run from 0 to 0.6 bar up to 0 to 1,600 bar, with vacuum and compound ranges also available.

Seven Star LLC supplies the WIKA 232.50 to refineries, gas processing plants, power stations, desalination plants and contractors across Oman and the GCC, with engineering support in Muscat. For buyers searching for a pressure gauge supplier in Oman, it is one of the most widely specified process gauges, because a single model number covers chemical, oil and gas, power and water applications with consistent materials and documentation.

Measurement Principle

Pressure enters a Bourdon tube made of 316L stainless steel, in either C-type or helical form. As pressure rises, the oval cross-section of the tube tends to become round and the tube straightens slightly. The movement of the tube tip is transmitted through a stainless steel movement to the pointer, which sweeps across the dial in proportion to the applied pressure. No external power is needed, and the reading remains available during a power or control system failure.

Because the case of the WIKA 232.50 is not filled, the movement and pointer are undamped. This gives the widest temperature capability in the family: the medium can be from -40 to +200 °C and the ambient from -40 to +60 °C, compared with -20 to +100 °C for glycerine-filled instruments. Where strong pulsation or vibration is present, the data sheet points to the liquid-filled 233.50, and a restrictor of 0.6 or 0.3 mm can also be fitted in the process connection.

Engineering Design of the WIKA 232.50

The case is stainless steel 1.4301 (304) or 1.4571 (316Ti), with a stainless steel bayonet ring and a laminated safety glass window on NS 100 and 160 (polycarbonate on NS 63). The design meets safety level S1 to EN 837-1, with a blow-out device on the back of the case for NS 100 and 160, so that in the event of a failure, overpressure escapes away from the operator. Ranges up to 16 bar include a compensating valve to vent and reseal the case. All wetted parts, the Bourdon tube and the process connection, are 316L, and the measuring element is helium leak tested.

Process connections include G 1/2 B, G 1/4 B, M20 x 1.5 and other EN 837-1 threads, ISO 7 threads and 1/2 or 1/4 NPT, in lower mount, lower back mount or centre back mount. Mounting options cover panel flanges, surface flanges and a triangular profile ring with bracket. The WIKA 232.50 can be ordered with increased overload safety of two to five times, vacuum resistance to -1 bar, mark or drag pointers and special dials, and a QR code on the dial links to serial number, order number and certificates online.

Industrial Applications

In oil and gas production around the Oman interior, at the Sohar and Duqm refining and petrochemical complexes, and in gas processing plants, the WIKA 232.50 is used on separators, manifolds, injection skids, utility air and nitrogen headers. The dry version is often preferred on hot lines, instrument air and gas service, and wherever oil-free construction is required. Power and desalination plants along the coast use it on boiler feed, cooling water, RO high-pressure and chemical dosing lines, where the stainless steel case resists the salt-laden atmosphere.

In buildings and district cooling plants, the gauge reads chilled water supply and return pressures at pumps, strainers and heat exchangers, giving a local reading independent of the BMS. Seven Star LLC supplies the WIKA 232.50 in the size, range and connection the project requires, with the official data sheet, and can combine it with diaphragm seals or accessories when the medium is viscous, crystallising or very hot.

About brand
Pressure gauges are what most engineers picture first when they hear WIKA, and the catalog has grown from there into temperature, transmitters and calibration instruments. The company was founded in 1946 in Klingenberg am Main, Germany. Seven Star LLC lists WIKA pressure gauges, differential pressure gauges, pressure transmitters, bimetal thermometers, resistance thermometers and thermocouples, and sources them for plants in Oman.

WIKA pressure and temperature models listed

WIKA identifies mechanical instruments by model number:
  • Bourdon tube pressure gauges: 111.10 and 212.20 for general duty, 213.53 liquid-filled, 232.50 in stainless steel
  • Differential pressure: 732.51 gauge and DPGT43 with output signal
  • Electronic pressure: UPT-20 process transmitter and CPG1500 precision digital gauge
  • Bimetal thermometers: TG54, A52 and model 55
  • Electrical temperature: TR12-B and TR33 resistance thermometers and the TC10-B thermocouple for thermowell mounting
The model number is only the start. Nominal size, scale range, process connection, connection position and options turn a model such as 232.50 into one specific instrument.

Where WIKA instruments are used

WIKA pressure gauges and thermometers give local indication on pumps, vessels, headers and skids in refineries, gas plants, power stations, water treatment and machine building throughout the GCC. Stainless steel gauges such as the 232.50 are specified for corrosive atmospheres and process media, and liquid filling is chosen where vibration or pulsation is present. Transmitters and resistance thermometers feed the control system.

Ordering WIKA instruments: what we need

For WIKA pressure gauges send the model, nominal size (for example 63, 100 or 160 mm), scale range and unit, process connection thread and its position (lower or back mount), wetted material and any filling, and accessories such as a diaphragm seal or contacts. For thermometers and probes add stem or insertion length, stem diameter, sensor type and class, and thermowell details. A photo of the dial and of the label on the case usually answers most of these points.

Frequently Asked Questions

When should I choose the WIKA 232.50 instead of the liquid-filled 233.50?
Both models share the same stainless steel case and 316L measuring system. The 232.50 is the unfilled version, which allows medium temperatures from -40 to +200 °C and is the natural choice for oxygen service in an oil- and grease-free build. The 233.50 with case filling is better where there are strong pressure pulsations or vibration, such as directly on reciprocating pumps and compressors.
What accuracy does the WIKA 232.50 achieve?
NS 100 and NS 160 gauges are class 1.0 per EN 837-1, or grade 1A (plus or minus 1 percent of span) per ASME B40.100. The NS 63 size is class 1.6. The temperature error is no more than 0.4 percent of full scale per 10 °C deviation from the 20 °C reference.
Is the WIKA 232.50 suitable for sour gas service in oil and gas production?
WIKA offers a version built per NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156 for use in H2S-containing environments in oil and gas production. This option must be specified when ordering, together with the scale range and process connection.
Which process connections are available on the WIKA 232.50?
Options include G 1/8 B, G 1/4 B, G 1/2 B, M12 x 1.5 and M20 x 1.5 to EN 837-1, R 1/4 and R 1/2 to ISO 7, and 1/4 NPT and 1/2 NPT. Connection location can be lower mount, lower back mount or centre back mount on NS 63, and a restrictor of 0.6 or 0.3 mm is available.
