JIE JRHB Helical-Bevel Industrial Gear Unit
Overview
The JIE JRHB is the bevel-helical, right-angle version of JIE Drive’s JRH heavy industrial gear unit platform. It turns the drive through 90 degrees, so the motor can run along the length of a conveyor or alongside a machine frame while the output shaft drives the head pulley, screw or agitator directly. JIE builds the JRHB in sizes 4 to 28 with two, three or four stages, nominal ratios from 5 to 400, input ratings from 2.8 kW to 4,908 kW and output torque from 5,500 N·m up to 1,400,000 N·m, making the JIE JRHB a candidate for many of the largest right-angle drives in bulk handling and process industry.
Seven Star LLC supplies JIE JRHB units to customers in Oman and the GCC and supports them from Muscat with selection checks, lead-time confirmation and delivery planning. Right-angle heavy drives are often replacements for older units with fixed foundations, so our engineers start from the existing shaft heights, centre lines and torque arm points and confirm that the proposed size and arrangement fit before an order is placed.
Operating Principle
In a bevel-helical gear unit the first reduction stage uses a pair of bevel gears whose axes intersect at a right angle. This stage changes the direction of rotation from the input axis to the output axis, and the following stages are helical pairs on parallel shafts that complete the reduction. The JIE JRHB family is offered as JRHB2, JRHB3 and JRHB4, meaning two, three or four stages in total, and the catalogue gives a ratio band of 5 to 400 for both the horizontal and the vertical JRHB2V to JRHB4V layouts.
Because the bevel set is placed at the high-speed end, where torque is lowest, the right-angle stage can be kept compact while the heavily loaded low-speed stages use helical gears that share load across several teeth at once. Compared with a worm gear right-angle drive, which relies on sliding contact, a bevel-helical train uses rolling contact throughout and is much more efficient, so less input power is turned into heat. For continuous-duty conveyors and elevators running in hot climates that difference shows up directly in energy use and in oil temperature.
Engineering Design of the JIE JRHB
The JIE JRHB shares the reworked JRH housing concept: fewer part types spread over more sizes, higher rated power per frame, a non-contact labyrinth seal, radial shaft seals as standard and RAL 7031 paint as the default colour. Noise was a specific design target for the family, and the catalogue also contains sections on lubrication, explosion protection and accessories. Units can be prepared for JIE intelligent monitoring so that temperature and running condition can be followed over time for preventive maintenance.
Configuration follows a modular code. Output can be a solid shaft (S), a hollow shaft (H) or a hollow shaft with shrink disc (D), and the housing can be set up for horizontal mounting, vertical mounting or mounting without feet. On the input side the JIE JRHB accepts a single or double solid input shaft or an IEC motor, and accessories include flanges, a swing base and a torque arm. A code such as JRHB3SH8-50-B-00 identifies a three-stage bevel-helical unit, size 8, solid output shaft, horizontal mounting, ratio 50 and assembly B. The gear unit ships ready to run but without oil, and the viscosity on the nameplate must be used at first fill.
Key Features
Engineers comparing right-angle options will find these points of the JIE JRHB most relevant.
- A 90 degree bevel input stage lets the motor sit parallel to the conveyor or machine, saving floor space and simplifying guarding.
- Sizes 4 to 28 with two to four stages cover nominal ratios from 5 to 400.
- Rated input power runs from 2.8 kW to 4,908 kW and output torque from 5,500 N·m to 1,400,000 N·m.
- Rolling-contact bevel and helical gearing gives far higher efficiency than a worm drive of similar torque.
- Solid, hollow and shrink-disc hollow output shafts support both coupled and shaft-mounted installations.
- Horizontal and vertical housing layouts are both catalogued, which helps with mixer and agitator drives.
- Labyrinth sealing and the reworked housing support long life with no oil leakage and reduced noise.
- JIE also builds a dedicated JRHD bucket elevator variant in the same JRH family for that specific duty.
Industrial Applications
Right-angle heavy gear units are the workhorses of belt conveyors, bucket elevators, apron feeders, screw conveyors and large agitators. In Oman that means cement and clinker handling, limestone and gypsum quarries, bulk berths and stockyards at Sohar and Duqm, and fertiliser and chemical plants where a vertical JIE JRHB can sit on top of a tank and drive a slow agitator shaft. JIE itself lists power equipment, port machinery, cement and chemical mixing as typical uses for the JRH platform, all of which have a strong presence in the Sultanate.
Water and wastewater utilities across the GCC also rely on right-angle drives for clarifier mechanisms, screw pumps and sludge handling, where a JIE JRHB with a hollow shaft and torque arm can mount directly on the driven shaft. Seven Star LLC supports these users as a trusted supplier with engineering support in Muscat. For lighter right-angle duties below the JRH range we also supply the JIE JRT K series helical-bevel gearmotor.

How to Order
Seven Star LLC prepares quotations for the JIE JRHB from either a full duty specification or the nameplate and photographs of an existing right-angle unit. Share the absorbed power, output speed, operating hours per day, start frequency and mounting arrangement, and our Muscat team will propose a size and ratio, check availability and delivery to your site in Oman or elsewhere in the GCC, and send the JRH catalogue extract for your records. For packaged drives on smaller conveyors you can also review the JIE JRT R series helical gearmotor and the JIE JRT S series helical-worm gearmotor.

The JRT modular gearmotor line is listed in its four classic forms: the R series helical gearmotor with in-line shafts, the F series parallel shaft helical gearmotor, the K series helical-bevel gearmotor with a right-angle output, and the S series helical-worm gearmotor. For heavier duty there are two industrial gear units: the JRHH with parallel shafts and the JRHB helical-bevel unit.Where JIE drives are used
R and F units drive conveyors, agitators and pumps where the motor sits in line with or parallel to the driven shaft. K units fit where space forces a right-angle layout, as on belt conveyor heads and bucket elevators. The JRHH and JRHB industrial gear units are applied to large conveyors, crushers, mills and hoisting gear in cement, mining, ports and bulk handling, industries well represented in the GCC.Ordering JIE gearmotors: what we need
Send the full type designation and the nameplate data of the existing unit: ratio, output speed, motor power, mounting position and serial number. For a new drive we need the required output torque and speed, the service factor or a description of the load, shaft type (solid or hollow, with dimensions), foot or flange mounting, motor voltage and frequency, brake if any, and the ambient temperature. A dimensional sketch of the driven machine shaft prevents most fitting errors.Browse JIE products by category: Electromotors.
