MANUAL RELEASE’’MEDC’’SERIES:BG2E
The Manual Release MEDC BG2E is a high-performance break glass call point engineered for use in hazardous and potentially explosive atmospheres. Designed by Eaton’s Crouse-Hinds series, this safety device ensures reliable manual activation in emergency situations. With its robust construction and compliance to stringent safety standards, the Manual Release MEDC BG2E is trusted in critical environments where reliability is paramount.
The unit is specifically suitable for both onshore and offshore installations, including oil refineries, gas processing plants, and petrochemical facilities. Its corrosion-resistant Glass Reinforced Polyester (GRP) enclosure provides exceptional durability while keeping the unit lightweight for easier installation. Rated to IP66/67, the Manual Release MEDC BG2E ensures complete protection against dust ingress and high-pressure water jets, making it ideal for challenging environments with exposure to moisture, salt, and extreme weather.
With a maximum voltage of 24 V and a current rating of 0.05 A, this break glass call point delivers safe and efficient operation without compromising system performance. It is designed for use with conventional EX-certified fire and safety systems, ensuring full compliance with ATEX and IECEx requirements for explosive atmosphere safety.
The Manual Release MEDC BG2E features a simple and intuitive manual activation method—breaking the safety glass to trigger an alarm or safety response. This design makes it an essential component in emergency shutdown systems (ESD) and fire alarm networks in hazardous industrial zones.
Applications include oil rigs, LNG plants, chemical storage facilities, power plants, and marine platforms where safety is critical and environmental resistance is non-negotiable. The unit’s compact form factor allows it to be installed in confined spaces, while its bright finish and clear labeling ensure quick identification during emergencies.
Key benefits of the Manual Release MEDC BG2E include:
High corrosion resistance thanks to the GRP body.
Compliance with international hazardous area safety certifications.
IP66/67 protection for operation in harsh outdoor or marine conditions.
Simple manual operation for fast emergency response.
Low maintenance design with durable components.
Whether you need a dependable manual release unit for offshore oil platforms or a corrosion-resistant call point for industrial facilities, the Manual Release MEDC BG2E offers unmatched reliability, ruggedness, and compliance with global safety standards.
Technical Overview
The MEDC BG2E is a manual release call point (break glass unit) from the MEDC BG2 range, now manufactured under Eaton’s Crouse-Hinds series following Eaton’s acquisition of MEDC. Per the official Eaton/Crouse-Hinds datasheet (DSMC0006-EN), the BG2 range is certified for use in hazardous areas, with two principal electrical configurations available: an Ex de version rated Ex db eb IIC T6 Gb, suitable for ATEX Category 2GD applications (Zone 1/2), and an Ex ia intrinsically-safe version rated Ex ia IIC T4 Ga, suitable for ATEX Category 1GD applications (Zone 0) — meaning the BG2 range as a whole can be specified across the full spectrum of hazardous area zones from the most demanding Zone 0 down to Zone 2, depending on which configuration is ordered. Both AC and DC electrical versions are available.
The housing is constructed from anti-static, UV-resistant glass-reinforced polyester (GRP) with a red painted finish, giving the unit strong corrosion resistance for offshore platforms as well as onshore oil, gas, and petrochemical installations, while remaining lightweight compared to a metal-bodied alternative. The unit carries an IP66 and IP67 ingress protection rating, and provides contact/switch ratings of 30 Vdc at 5A resistive or 3A inductive, or 250 Vac at 5A resistive or inductive, with six 2.5 mm² field-wiring terminals for connection. Optional configurations include an end-of-line resistor, an in-line resistor, or a combined resistor/diode package, allowing the call point to be integrated into a variety of fire and gas alarm loop monitoring architectures. Operating temperature range is −40°C to +70°C, supporting deployment across the wide ambient temperature swings found in Gulf region outdoor industrial installations.
Applications
The BG2E manual call point is installed as part of fire and gas detection and alarm systems in hazardous industrial environments — offshore oil and gas platforms, onshore process plants, and petrochemical facilities — providing personnel with a manually-operated means to trigger a plant alarm or emergency shutdown sequence directly from the field, wherever a flammable atmosphere may be present.
Why Seven Star LLC
Seven Star LLC supplies genuine MEDC/Eaton Crouse-Hinds BG2 range manual call points to customers across Oman and the GCC, and helps confirm the correct hazardous-area zone rating, electrical configuration, and resistor/diode option for a specific fire and gas system design before order confirmation.
Request a Quote for MANUAL RELEASE’’MEDC’’SERIES:BG2E
Contact Seven Star LLC to request a quotation for the MEDC BG2E manual release call point. Our team can help confirm the correct hazardous-area certification and electrical configuration for your fire and gas system, and support reliable delivery across Oman and the wider GCC region.
Ordering Notes
When requesting a quotation, please specify the hazardous-area zone classification of the installation location (Zone 0, 1, or 2), the required electrical version (AC or DC), and the resistor/diode configuration needed to integrate with your existing fire and gas alarm control panel, so Seven Star LLC can confirm the correct BG2E configuration for your system.
Offshore and Coastal Durability
The BG2E’s GRP housing and IP66/67 ingress protection make it particularly well suited to Oman’s coastal and offshore installations, where salt-laden air and high humidity can accelerate corrosion on metal-bodied alarm devices over time. Seven Star LLC recommends the GRP-bodied BG2 range specifically for offshore platforms and coastal onshore facilities where long-term corrosion resistance is a priority alongside hazardous-area certification.
