Panametrics HygroPro II Aluminum Oxide Moisture Transmitter
Overview
The Panametrics HygroPro II aluminum oxide moisture transmitter, also referred to as the Panametrics HygroPro II, is engineered by Panametrics, a Baker Hughes business, to measure trace moisture concentration in gases and non-aqueous liquids from ambient levels down to parts-per-billion. Built as an intrinsically safe, compact, loop-powered display transmitter, the HygroPro II combines a next-generation aluminum oxide moisture sensor with an integrated backlit display and six-button keypad, giving process technicians full local configuration and readout without needing a separate host analyzer console. It is the successor to decades of Panametrics moisture measurement technology, and the Panametrics HygroPro II is refined for the rugged demands of industrial hydrocarbon processing.
As the official authorized partner and exclusive regional representative for Panametrics, Seven Star LLC proudly supplies the Panametrics HygroPro II moisture transmitter to gas processing, petrochemical and power generation facilities across Oman and the wider GCC. Engineering teams in Muscat, Sohar and Salalah rely on Seven Star LLC to specify the correct probe configuration, pressure option and hazardous area certification for their process, with genuine factory calibration and full manufacturer warranty support.
Measurement Principle
The HygroPro II uses a thin-film aluminum oxide moisture sensor whose capacitance changes in proportion to the partial pressure of water vapor absorbed into the sensor’s porous oxide layer. Because the aluminum oxide layer equilibrates quickly with the surrounding gas or liquid, the sensor responds rapidly to changing moisture levels while remaining stable over long service intervals when properly calibrated. Each sensor is individually computer-calibrated against precisely known moisture concentrations traceable to national metrology standards, ensuring that dew/frost point readings reported by the transmitter are directly comparable across installations and over time.
A built-in NTC thermistor provides real-time temperature compensation of the raw moisture signal, and an optional piezoresistive pressure transducer – selectable in ranges from 30 to 5,000 psig – allows the HygroPro II to calculate derived parameters such as ppmv, ppmw and pounds per million standard cubic feet directly at the transmitter. Because the measurement relies on sensor equilibration rather than mechanical sampling, there are no moving parts, no consumable reagents, and no pressure drop introduced into the process line, which keeps installation simple and maintenance minimal.
Engineering Design of the Panametrics HygroPro II
The Panametrics HygroPro II consists of a display and keypad housing paired with a field-replaceable transducer element (RTE) that carries the aluminum oxide sensor, thermistor, optional pressure transducer, and calibration data stored on a non-volatile EEPROM. This design means a technician can swap a worn or damaged sensor element in the field in minutes, without recalibrating the unit manually, because the replacement RTE carries its own factory calibration data automatically read by the transmitter electronics.
The enclosure is rated Type 4X, IP66 and IP67, with certified intrinsically safe electronics suitable for Class I Division 1/2 and Zone 0/2 hazardous locations under ATEX, IECEx and North American approvals. Process connection is via a 3/4-16 in. straight male thread with O-ring, or G1/2 with an optional adaptor, and the unit communicates over a loop-powered 4 to 20 mA output with HART digital communication overlay, supporting multi-drop networking so several HygroPro II transmitters can share a single communications loop back to the control room.

- 4–20 mA loop-powered output with HART digital communication and multi-drop networking support.
- Intrinsically safe design certified for ATEX, IECEx and North American Class I Division 1/2 hazardous locations.
- Rugged Type 4X, IP66/IP67 enclosure suitable for outdoor and harsh process environments.
Industrial Applications
The Panametrics HygroPro II is deployed across natural gas transmission and processing, LNG facilities, petrochemical plants, and power generation stations where trace moisture in a process gas or hydrocarbon liquid stream must be continuously monitored to prevent hydrate formation, corrosion, or off-specification product. It is equally suited to industrial gas production, semiconductor process gas supply, furnace atmosphere control in heat treating operations, and compressed air dryer performance verification, wherever a permanently installed, field-serviceable moisture transmitter is preferred over a portable analyzer.
As the officially authorized partner for Panametrics, Seven Star LLC distributes the Panametrics HygroPro II to gas processing plants, refineries and industrial gas producers throughout Oman and the GCC, including operators in the Sohar and Salalah free zones. Local application support means facility engineers across the Sultanate of Oman and neighboring GCC states can configure the correct pressure transducer range, calibration certificate, and hazardous area approval before ordering, backed by Seven Star LLC’s regional stock and technical team.
