Pepperl+Fuchs R2000 2-D LiDAR Laser Scanner
Overview
The Pepperl+Fuchs R2000 2-D LiDAR sensor is a high-performance laser scanner engineered for demanding field monitoring, positioning, and object profiling applications across industrial and logistics environments. Utilizing Pepperl+Fuchs’ proprietary Pulse Ranging Technology (PRT), the R2000 series delivers gapless 360° all-around visibility with millimeter-level measurement precision, making it one of the most capable 2-D LiDAR platforms available for automated guided vehicle (AGV) navigation, area monitoring, and precise object detection.
For system integrators and plant operators across Oman and the wider GCC building automated material handling, robotics, and safety monitoring systems, the R2000 provides a dependable sensing platform with Ethernet connectivity for high-speed data output. Seven Star LLC supplies the Pepperl+Fuchs R2000 2-D LiDAR sensor to customers in Muscat, Sohar, Salalah, and across the Sultanate of Oman as an authorized Pepperl+Fuchs distribution partner, ensuring genuine equipment, full documentation, and factory-backed technical support.
Measurement and Operating Principle
The R2000 measures distance using Pulse Ranging Technology, in which a laser diode emits modulated infrared light pulses at a wavelength of 905 nm with a pulse repetition rate of 250 kHz. The rotating scan head sweeps the laser beam through a full 360° field of view at a configurable scan rate of 10 to 50 scans per second, capturing up to 250,000 individual distance measurements per second. This high measurement density, combined with an angular resolution as fine as 0.014°, allows the R2000 to detect small objects and sharp edges with exceptional positional accuracy.
Each measurement point is processed through onboard filtering – maximum, average, median, and reflectivity filters are all selectable – to optimize signal quality for the specific application, whether that is precise navigation reference point detection or robust object presence monitoring in variable ambient light conditions up to 80,000 lux. Typical measured value noise is as low as ±10 mm at ranges up to 8 meters, with absolute accuracy typically within ±25 mm across the sensor’s full measuring range.
Engineering Design of the Pepperl+Fuchs R2000
The R2000 series is offered in three variants tailored to different application needs: the R2000 Detection scanner for field monitoring, the R2000 UHD (Ultra High Density) scanner for complex navigation and measuring tasks with a measuring range to object of up to 60 m, and the R2000 HD (High Density) scanner optimized for object profiling and robotics with a measuring range up to 30 m. Depending on variant and target reflectivity, measuring ranges span from 0.1 m up to 200 m against a retroreflector.
The housing is constructed from ABS, polycarbonate, and aluminum with an IP65 degree of protection, and the optical face uses durable PMMA to withstand demanding industrial environments. Electrical connections are made via M12 connectors – a 4-pin connector for power, an 8-pin A-coded MultiPort connector, and a 4-pin D-coded connector for the Fast Ethernet interface, which supports HTTP, TCP/IP, and UDP/IP protocols for high-speed data transfer to a host controller. The sensor operates from a 10–30 V DC supply, draws less than 10 W, and is rated for an ambient temperature range of −10°C to +50°C, with two independently configurable, short-circuit and reverse-polarity protected inputs/outputs for direct integration into control systems.

Industrial Applications
The R2000 2-D LiDAR sensor is widely deployed for automated guided vehicle (AGV) and autonomous mobile robot (AMR) navigation, providing precise orientation and obstacle detection in warehouses, distribution centers, and manufacturing facilities. Its high scan rate and long detection range also make it well suited to area and perimeter monitoring, vehicle positioning at transfer and bottleneck points, silo and stockpile volume profiling, and general-purpose object detection in logistics and process automation systems.
As automation and logistics infrastructure continues to expand across Oman, including facilities supporting the Sohar and Salalah industrial and free zones, the R2000 gives integrators a proven sensing platform for AGV fleets and automated material handling systems. As an authorized Pepperl+Fuchs partner, Seven Star LLC supports these projects across the Sultanate of Oman with genuine factory-sourced sensors, application engineering guidance, and ongoing technical support.

Configuration, Diagnostics, and System Integration
Unlike scanners that depend entirely on a connected PC for setup, the Pepperl+Fuchs R2000 carries an integrated interactive display and control panel on the sensor body, so network parameters, scan rate, and output behaviour can be reviewed and adjusted directly at the point of installation, with live diagnostic status shown on the same panel. For deeper configuration the sensor hosts a web-based interface reachable over its Fast Ethernet port from a standard browser, requiring no proprietary software on the commissioning engineer’s machine. Measurement data is streamed over TCP/IP or UDP/IP in a documented telegram format, making integration with PLCs, industrial PCs, robot controllers, and vendor AGV navigation stacks straightforward, while the two configurable switching outputs each handle up to 100 mA and are short-circuit and reverse-polarity protected, allowing simple zone alarms to be generated by the sensor itself.
Approvals, Environmental Ratings, and Installation Notes
The R2000 is certified to Laser Class 1 under EN 60825-1:2014 and approved under the applicable FDA 21 CFR laser performance regulations, so it is eye-safe and may be installed in personnel-accessible areas without additional optical shielding. It is built to EN 60947-5-2, and its mechanical robustness is qualified against EN 60068-2-6 for vibration and EN 60068-2-27 for shock – relevant for a device that spends its service life on a moving vehicle. The unit measures roughly 116.5 mm high with a 106 mm × 106 mm footprint and weighs about 0.8 kg, light enough for mast, bracket, or vehicle-front mounting. Storage temperature spans −20°C to +70°C with tolerance to 95 percent relative humidity. Seven Star LLC advises specifying an unobstructed optical path across the full scan plane and keeping the PMMA window free of the dust typical of cement, mining, and port sites; wipe-down is the principal maintenance activity, as the scanner has no field-serviceable wear parts.
