Overview

The ABB AquaMaster4 FEW400 is an electromagnetic flowmeter engineered for water and wastewater networks, offering battery, solar, wind or mains powered operation with no external power required on most installations. It provides flow measurement to OIML R49:2013 metering performance with Class 1 accuracy of +/-0.2% of rate when mains powered, plus pressure measurement, leak detection and an integral data logger, making it a complete flow and pressure monitoring station in one instrument. The instrument is purpose-built for the reality of water network monitoring, where most metering points across a distribution network have no mains power available, and a meter that depends on an external power feed simply cannot be deployed at the majority of locations a utility actually needs to monitor.

Engineering and Design

The FEW400 supports full bore sizes from DN 25 to DN 600 with reduced bore and probe versions covering the full range up to DN 2400 and probe insertion styles, with flanges to ASME, AWWA, ISO 7005/EN 1092-1, DIN, AS 4087, AS 2129 and JIS standards. Battery-powered models run on 3.6 V lithium thionyl chloride D-cells with nominal battery life up to 10.5 years on small sizes (DN 40-80 integral mount, 15-second acquisition) and can be configured locally via the ABB Velox Interface app on any Android smartphone or tablet through NFC.

The instrument provides pulse/alarm outputs, RS485 Modbus RTU (9600/19200 baud) and 3-wire Sensus-compatible AMR output for integration with SCADA, telemetry and billing systems. The integral logger stores flow and pressure data with 45,871 records (31 days at 1-minute intervals) plus 8 years of daily totals, and logger files are retrieved as time-stamped CSV via the Velox app. Options include a mains supply (95-240 V AC), solar or wind renewable power with 48 days of internal backup on small sizes, and pressure transducer input for network pressure monitoring and leak detection.
