LongTeng ER70S-6 Carbon Steel Solid MIG Welding Wire Supplied by Seven Star LLC

Solid Welding Wire

Solid welding wire is the continuous, copper-coated or bare wire fed through a MIG/MAG gun to make clean, low-spatter welds on carbon, low-alloy and stainless steels. For structural fabrication, tank building, skids and general plant maintenance in Oman and the GCC, the most common choice is AWS A5.18 ER70S-6, whose higher silicon and manganese content tolerates light mill scale and gives good wetting. ER70S-3 and ER70S-4 suit cleaner plate, while ER80S-G and higher grades serve higher-strength steels.

Thin or sheet work often runs on short-circuit transfer with an argon-CO2 mix, whereas thicker plate uses spray or pulsed transfer for deeper fusion. Wire diameter, usually 0.8 to 1.6 mm, should be matched to joint thickness and the power source. Stainless solid wires such as ER308L and ER316L cover process piping and food-grade work.

Seven Star LLC supplies solid wire in spooled and drum packs, including LongTeng and Lincoln Electric grades. For heavier deposition, compare flux-cored welding wire; for root passes and precision joints see TIG welding wire. The wire is run on MIG/MAG welding machines fitted with the right TIG torches and MIG guns, and the wider range is listed under welding consumables.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is ER70S-6 wire used for?
ER70S-6 is a general-purpose carbon steel solid wire under AWS A5.18 for MIG/MAG welding. Its deoxidiser content makes it tolerant of light mill scale, so it is widely used in structural and plant fabrication.
Which shielding gas should I use with solid wire?
Carbon steel wire commonly runs on 100 percent CO2 or an argon-CO2 mix such as 80/20 or 90/10, depending on transfer mode and spatter tolerance. Stainless wires use argon-based mixes with low CO2 or oxygen.
What wire diameter should I choose?
Thin sheet is often welded with 0.8 to 1.0 mm wire, and general plate with 1.0 to 1.2 mm. Heavier sections can use 1.6 mm if the machine supports it.
What is the difference between ER70S-3 and ER70S-6?
Both are AWS A5.18 carbon steel wires. ER70S-6 has more deoxidisers and handles dirtier surfaces, while ER70S-3 suits cleaner steel.
How do I store solid welding wire?
Keep spools sealed in their packaging in a dry place and cover them on the machine when not in use. Rust or moisture on the wire causes feeding problems and porosity.
